BE ONE WITH Jesus

IN Eucharistic Adoration

"You must propagate veneration of the Most Blessed Sacrament with all your might, for the devotion to the Holy Eucharist is the queen of all devotions." – Pope Benedict XV

For over 500 years, one of the most beautiful of all Catholic devotions has been the one known as Quarant Ore, or Forty Hours, where the Blessed Sacrament is solemnly exposed for 40 hours outside the tabernacle and continuously adored by the faithful.

Please take this opportunity to come face-to-face with Our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration as Holy Angels observes Forty Hours Devotion, beginning with Exposition on Friday, October 12, at 10:00 a.m., until Benediction on Sunday, October 14, after 12:00 p.m. Mass. There will be sign-up sheets located in the back of Church.

IMAGES IN HOLY ANGELS CHURCH. Have you wondered who or what the images are? If you’ve not yet gotten a color brochure or Holy Angels Guidebook identifying the images and statues of our church, they are still available at the Parish Office, the back of Church (honors system for payment), the school office and the religious education office. Many thanks to Mike Behr and Behr Designs for producing the color brochure which is also on display in the back of church and to Anne Schmiesing for her many hours in coordinating the update of the Holy Angels Guidebook. Any proceeds in excess of the cost of printing will go to Holy Angels School. Guidebooks are $4.00 and color brochures are $1.00 each. The 2018 edition of the Guidebook is very similar to the 2014 edition, but with more photos and an additional page.

Caring for Loved Ones at Life’s EndIndeed, we are created to depend upon one another and walk together in suffering. But when family members or friends approach life’s end, we may not know how best to “shelter” them.

Invite God In – Thedyingprocessisasacredtime–afinalseasontoseekclosure in this life and prepare for the next, in the hope of sharing in Christ’s Resurrection. As you enter into this season with your friend or family member, ask God to accompany both of you.Be Steadfast in CompassionSurround him or her with love, support, and companionship that are “anchored in unconditional respect for their human dignity, beginning with respect for the inherent value of their lives.”Provide a Peaceful Presence Your own quiet, patient presence can provide important support as your loved one prepares emotionally and spiritually for his or her passing. Show Tenderness Those who are dying remain in need of the tenderness of personal human contact. Tell stories, laugh, and share memories to reassure the person he or she is a cherished gift, not a burden in any way.

Surround them with love, support, and companionship that are “anchored in unconditional respect for

their human dignity, beginning with respect for the inherent value of their lives.”

CALL TO PRAYER

FAMILY ROSARY RALLYHoly Angels is joining with Americans across the Country in praying the Rosary Coast to Coast on Sunday, October 7, at 7:00 p.m. at the Lehman Catholic High

School soccer field with keynote speaker, Father JarredKohn, and a candlelight Rosary procession at sundown. Special music will begin at 6:30 p.m. for those who wish to come early.

Please join us for this historic event for our Nation as we go Coast to Coast, Parish to Parish and Family to Family.

ASK DEACON JEFFWhy is the Deacon handed the book of the Gospels during the Ordination Rite? What does the Bishop say?

Each ordinand kneels before the bishop one by one. Each time the Bishop, while still holding the Book of the Gospels, has the ordinand hold

onto the other half of it, and says: Receive the Gospel of Christ, whose herald you now are. Believe what you read, teach what you believe, and practice what you teach. This is a simple reminder to thedifficultreality. In the months leading up to ordination, the candidate made a profession of faith and an oath of fidelity. We recited the Creed andprofessed to teach the truths of the Church. We signed the documents and promised to do so with our right hands on the Book of the Gospels. Wow! A simple gesture that carries with it a heavy burden. These promises, along with the handing off of the Book of Gospels during orientation, are a reminder that we have a responsibility to always proclaim the truths of Jesus Christ and authentically teach and live the truths of the Church. People look towards ordained ministers to know the teachings of the truth, so if we teach in error, we can do a lot of harm in leading people astray. So, please pray for us that we may teach and live the Gospel well!

Thank you and God Bless,Deacon Jeff Stegbauer

Please continue to send in your questions to [email protected]!

We are pleased to report that net proceeds from the Holy Angels Parish Picnic and Family Festival totaled $23,922.00. Thank you to all who made this year’s picnic such a success!

SAINT OF THE WEEK

ST. ALBERT OF JERUSALEM

St. Albert was born of a noble line in Northern Italy near Parma around the year 1149. After much study and prayer, he was ordained a priest and canon of the Abbey of the Holy Cross in Lombardy. When he was only 35 years old, he was made bishop of Bobbio, then after a very short time there made bishop of Vercelli. As the Crusades were being fought in the Holy Land, the Latin Patriarchate was established as a way for Latin Rite Christians to be protected andtheir influencetohaveweight. However, as history has it written, many of the Patriarchs of Jerusalem were not saints, nor were many of them worthy of the title "Christian." After the death of Patriarch Michael of Jerusalem in 1203, the Canons of the Holy Sepulcher asked for a holy bishop to be sent to Jerusalem; they received Albert. However, by the year 1187, the Saracens had recaptured Jerusalem, thus Albert traveled to Akka, the temporary seat of power of the West in the Holy Land. Albert soon gained the trust of the Christians, and even of some Muslims. During his episcopacy in Jerusalem, Albert set up a rule for a few ascetic communities living on Mt. Carmel, of which the modern day Carmelites descend. He was summoned to Rome to attend the Ecumenical Council of the Lateran, but was murdered in Akka before he could attend by an enraged Christian, whom Albert had reprimanded for his poor handling of a hospital. St. Albert of Jerusalem was canonized by popular acclaim after his death. His feast day is September 25.
