Relocation of applicants for international protection
Information leaflet for Italy EN
‘What is relocation?’ The relocation program is a legal and safe way to travel in Europe. It concerns a transfer of applicants for international protection, who are in clear need of international protection, from Italy to another European State. Their application will only be examined once the relocation has taken place by the European State of relocation.
‘Does it apply to me?’ You will be eligible for relocation if you are in clear need of international protection and a citizen or a stateless former resident of Syria, Eritrea, Iraq and all other countries, which have had an international protection recognition rate of over or equal to 75% in EU countries for the last three months. The list of eligible nationalities is updated on a quarterly basis. Please ask competent authorities or EASO if your nationality is eligible for relocation. Moreover, in order to benefit from relocation you have to apply for international protection in Italy and you must go through the identification, registration and fingerprinting procedure carried out by the Italian authorities. Relocation applies to persons who arrived in Italy after 24 March 2015.
