People are very safety conscious today. We buckle up in our cars and our children wear helmets as they ride their bicycles. We pay attention to the color of terror alerts. Schools and work places practice safety procedures in case of armed intruders. We want some assurance that we are safe. But how do we avoid accidents? How can anyone be sure precautions will prevent the next terrorist attack or school shooting? Humanly speaking, no one can give us that guarantee. But we do have a guarantee of safety from our God. Jesus spoke these words, “My sheep listen to my voice;

I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:27,28). No

matter what happens in this world, the Lord promises his presence and his protection. He assures us that nothing occurs to us apart from his knowledge and con-trol. He uses all events

to serve our eternal good. With those safety measures in place, we live con-fi dent Christian lives looking forward to heaven, the place of eternal safety. Remember, you are in good hands – God’s hands!

~Pastor Jon Bilitz, Dean of Students
