We come here today to remember the ones who were loved and lost during the great war. Millions of people
around the world are remembering their sacrifices, and are commemorating those who fought and died in
conflicts since World War I. Sasha
Remembrance Day is held on the 11th of November each year. It is the same date the war ended to mark the
armistice, which is the written agreement to end the war in 1918. Abby
On the 11th day of the 11th month on the 11 hour a silence for one minute is held. It used to be two minutes of
silence: the time the contract was signed to bring an end to the conflict, marking the end of World War One.
Connor
A poppy is worn on Remembrance Day. In 1915 a poem was written by Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John
McCrae ‘In Founders Fields’ and it mentions the flowers that grew on the battlefields. Rory
Wreaths are laid at war memorials and people wear poppies. Bellatrix
The last post is played on the bugle – a small trumpet like instrument. This symbolised that the duty of the
dead was over and they can now rest in peace. Coop F
In war, more than 60,000 Australians died. Today we remember all those people who died. They sacrificed
themselves so we can have peace. Lucas
On Remembrance Day we say and write ‘Lest we forget’. It means the people who died in wars we will
remember always their service and sacrifice. The phrase ‘Lest we forget’ comes from a famous poem written
in the 19th century and means 'it should not be forgotten'. Lest we forget. Cooper B
Remembrance Day is when we commemorate the people that fought for our freedom.
Remembrance Day is also called Poppy Day because poppies grow in the battle fields. Remembrance Day is
when we go to the war memorial. World War 1 started in 1914. We have one minute of silence to remember
World War 1 ended in 1918. Tilly
Remembrance Day is special because we remember the people who died in war. It ended over 100 years ago.
We have one minute of silence to remember when the war ended at 11am on the 11th of November. Sal
Many people died in the war. The mums were very sad for their husbands and sons. At 11am the first world
war ended. We have at 11am on the 11th November one minute of silence. Ava
I am thankful for all the soldiers who tried their best and for keeping Australia protected. The war was four
years long and it was over one hundred years ago. On the 11th of the 11th month at 11am there is silence for a
whole minute. Mitch
A poppy is worn on Remembrance Day because they are the flowers that grew on the battle fields. Aidan
I like poppies. They smell beautiful and they are my favourite colour. James
I am thankful for the soldiers in the war. Josh
