Dear Community,

Relentless deadlines

Scent of fresh flowers fills the air

I mustn’t miss this spring! (The Art of Pausing, J. Valente)

Time for renewal and reflection is essential in our busy lives. I hope you had an opportunity sometime over

the past two weeks to enjoy the company of your children without the usual schedule of school life.

Term 4 has begun very smoothly, with children quickly settling into ‘work mode’

and happily catching up with friends. On Tuesday afternoon we had visitors from the

Guide Dogs Association – four with two legs and two with four legs! Elaine spoke

about life with a sight impairment and together with her guide dog Darcy,

demonstrated how she is able to live a full and active life. Katrine spoke about the

differences between a companion dog and a guide dog, and lots of children happily

gave Andy the companion dog pats while allowing Darcy the guide dog to do his job

without distraction. There is an opportunity to donate to Guide Dogs if you wish – we

have a display in the front office and you are most welcome to send through a

contribution.

New Term Captain and Vice-Captain

Congratulations to Jackson and Madison who have been elected by their class mates as our Term 4 school

leaders. Their first task was on Day 1 as they thanked our visitors. There will be many other opportunities

throughout this busy term for all Year 6 leaders to demonstrate their maturity and readiness for the next

phase in their educational journey.

Planning for 2017

We are now in the process of preparing for 2017. We have been notified by the Catholic Education Office

that we will have six classes again in 2017. Our predicted student numbers per year level are:

Kindergarten – 23 Year 1 – 20 Year 2 – 24 Year 3 – 22

Year 4 – 19 Year 5 – 16 Year 6 – 17

As a result, the structure of our six classes for 2017 will be Kindergarten, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4/5 and

Year 5/6. As of today, our predicted total number of students is 142. Of course, there will be comings and

goings before the beginning of 2017!

Staffing News

After six years on the staff of St Bede’s Primary, Ms Alicia Ernst will be moving on at the end of the year. We

will have an opportunity to farewell Alicia towards the end of term and to thank her for her commitment

and dedication to all the students whose lives have been enriched

through her teaching.

Summer Uniform

Weeks 1 and 2 are the changeover period from winter to summer

uniform. Students are expected to be in full summer uniform by the

beginning of Week 3. During this transition time, either full winter or

full summer uniform is the expectation – no mix’n’match please.

Wishing you a wonderful week. Trish Ferlitsch

PRAYER

O gracious God, who so generously lavishes our lives with goodness, create in our hearts a deep

centre of gratitude, a centre that grows so strong in its thanksgiving that sharing freely of our

treasures becomes the norm and the pattern of our existence. Remind us often of how much you cherish us, of how abundantly you have offered gifts to us, especially in the hours of our greatest

need. May we always be grateful for your reaching into our lives with surprises of joy,

growth and unearned love.

Amen

From Mrs Monkhouse

My Favourite Book Reader of the Week! Each week we will have a highlight on a reader of the week. Look out for great titles and why they like to read!

This week is:

Sy Jason

I really liked reading ‘Ook and Gluk’ by George Beard and Harold Hutchins. It is a really funny book. I like learning new words and when I come to a word I don’t know I re-read it. I am looking forward to reading a few bigger books in the future. One day I would like to read The Hobbit.

Term 4—Where has the year gone?

This is the term of celebration of the year gone and thanksgiving for all that we have received during

2016.

This will begin on Tuesday, 15th November with a whole School Mass @ 10am to celebrate the year

of 2016, where we have endeavoured to “Live, Love and Learn from the Heart”. We will celebrate our

year and give thanks for the blessings we have been given.

In the following week, Wednesday, 23rd November, we will give thanks for the gift of “Miss E”, farewelling her as she

explores new horizons and thanking her for all she has done for our school.

Tuesday, 6th December @ 12pm will be the Handover of Leadership Liturgy, where we thank our 2016 leaders for their

guidance and induct our 2017 school leaders.

Finally, on Thursday, 8th December @ 11.30am we have our Presentation Assembly, where the children receive their

reports and we officially farewell our wonderful Year 6 students as they move onto Secondary school.

May peace be in your homes,

Calling all Kinder Parents, You may recall that at the opening school Mass this year,

your child was welcomed to St Bede’s with a welcome

badge. These are a wonderful memento and a tradition that

is important to St Bede’s.

I would like to invite all present Kinder parents to a craft

morning, where we will make the badges and the “Tea and

Tissue” packs that will be presented to our new class of

2017 Kinders next year at the opening School Liturgy; and

to their parents on the first day of 2017.

Please join me on Thursday, 27th October in the school

library at 9.30am and together we will make badges ready

for 2017. I really appreciate the help and I feel it’s a lovely

way to welcome our new students and their families.

Morning Tea will be provided.

Look forward to meeting you then,

Ann Monkhouse

Try for 5 is this year’s theme for Nutrition Australia’s National Nutrition Week. It aims to inspire Australian children and adults alike to discover new ways to get the recommended five serves of vegetables a day. You can register online for the Try for 5 Personal

Challenge. Nutrition Australia will also unlock the recipes and information section to educate and inspire you with new ways to add veg to your day! One serve of vegies is half a cup (for solid vegies), or a cup of salad / leafy greens. Why not challenge your family, friends or classmates to see who can eat the most vegies each day, or the most different colours…. The Nutrition Australia website has more ideas and information.

Happy Birthday: Nelita, Harrison G, Jack D, Tiahnna, Fred, Rhys.

Uniform Pool

The uniform pool has plenty of size 10 shorts, a variety of sizes in both short and long sleeved shirts and plenty of size 6 polo jumpers, all these items are just $5.00 If you would like some of these items or something else from the uniform pool, just call or text Narelle (0425-218-201) or Lisa (0424-243-194) and they will organise to meet you before or after school - or we can simply leave your item at the office for collection.

Braidwood Swimming Club

Braidwood Swimming Club will be holding its AGM

tonight at 6:30 pm at the Braidwood Serviceman’s

Club. All positions are open. Sadly, if we are unable to
