Remote Work Air & User Experience

Page 2: Remote work air

Age: 27

Occupation: Software tester for Github (about 60 percent of the company works remotely)

Permanent Residence: Amy doesn't have a true home base—she picks up and moves to a new city, a new country, every few months.

Amy, on Why she chose a Digital Nomad Lifestyle:

“I look deep down, yeah, I think I was running away from that boring conventional life I was living on the East Coast before. I just have a lot of fear inside me about quickly slipping back into that rhythm if I let myself.”

Amy searches on Slack and Facebook groups for digital nomads that are located in Buenos Aires that she could get in touch with for potential accommodations. In the meantime, Amy books her flight to Buenos Aires and searches as well as books her accommodations via AirBnB.

After eating Amy rests (sleep).

Page 8: Remote work air

Amy wakes up on Sunday and searches Google for potential places to work at on Monday. She searches for potential cafes on google (specifically locations that have free wi-fi)

Cafe #1: She finds a cafe close to her AirBnB on yelp, but after arriving does not like it because it is very noisy and does not have enough power outlets.

Amy leaves the cafe because it is too loud and  goes home in order to participate in a meeting over skype that afternoon.

“Traveling so much makes me happy and it's my passion, but it's not like I'm always on the beach or anything like that. A lot of work goes into this and it takes dedication, discipline, and above all else, the ability to motivate yourself.” -Amy

Amy Rests(Note: Does not get any social interaction this day)

Page 9: Remote work air

Amy works the entire day from home today, not going to a cafe or coworking space. Amy gets all of her work done for the day

Amy researches for social activities on Meetup, Facebook and Tinder

Amy checks out a local bar she found on facebook - drinks a beer @ bar

When she gets home she looks on google for potential coworking spaces to try out the next day (Wednesday) because she has been working from home every day she has been in Buenos Aires.

When she gets home she looks on google for potential coworking spaces to try out the next day (Wednesday) because she has been working from home every day she has been in Buenos Aires. Amy goes to three coworking spaces over the course of the day.

First Coworking Space: Too expensive, she leaves.

Second coworking space: Feels unwelcomed not interactive

Third coworking space: Great facilities, consistent w-fi, she decides to work there for the remainder of the day

“I work a lot sometimes and that's just how it is. And there are a lot of times where I really just feel lonely. I miss my family. I miss my friends.”

I've had those low moments where I'm laying in my bed at night crying and thinking, "If I died right here in this bed right now, no one would know or care!" You totally get those moments. This is not all sunshine and butterflies.

“This is our passion and our way of life, so don't trivialize it by treating it like your cool new hobby. It's not a fun little vacation, or a side hobby. It's a serious commitment.”

“WiFi is such a huge deal for nomads and that's where resources like NomadList come in handy because we can rate things like the internet, cost of living, weather, safety, nightlife scene, and a lot more.” - Amy

The profile also provides photos and a list of amenities the space has to offer (ie. wi-fi, desk, printer etc.)
