In March, Alliance Française takes you to a musical journey with twobrilliant concerts. First, the Indo-French compositions of Esharêh,mixing traditional songs in « breton » language, Persian percussionsand Indian sarod, �ute and tabla, promises to create a sensation.Then, there will be jazz at its best with famous Rémi Panossian Trio.We’ll also have the honour to organize the meeting of the network ofAlliance Française in India and Nepal from 23rd to 25th of March.Presidents and Directors of all 14 Alliance Française centres will bepresent. Bienvenue à tous !

In April, it’s cinema time again with 2 irresistible comedies. We arealso proud to have AFH co-founder and life member Dr. (Mrs.) IsmatMehdi talk to us about Egypt, a country she knows very well.Congratulations to AFH Life Member Isabelle Collin for her dedicationto the French community in Hyderabad, for which the French Govtwill honour her with “Ordre National du Mérite” medal.Last but not least, let’s welcome our new teaching Intern, Cloé.

The originality of the ensemble Esharêh is to have succeeded in bringingtogether artists from diverse cultural backgrounds ...While combining Indian sounds, chants of the Arab World and the Persianpercussions, Esharêh reprises the musical and linguistic heritage of oraltradition songs from Upper Brittany countryside. By referring subtly to apossible link between the Eastern and Western cultures, these musiciansregain cultural heritage on behalf of a living oral tradition.Esharêh in Farsi (Persian language) literally means "allusion”.

The trio released the album “Add �ction” on January 2011 and wereelected “Revelation of the year” by the French radio TSF JAZZ!.These three musicians have been friends for a long time and it wasthus very natural for them to become a real Band. Their unity is awonderful strength for their music which has been mostly describedas being both lyrical and energetic.

In just 4 years the trio have performed in more than 200 concertsaround the world such as Canada, Ottawa jazz festival, Montreal jazzFestival, Vancouver Jazz Festival, and London Sunfest, in Europe,New Morning, Enjoy jazz festival (Germany)… in Asia (South Korea,China, Japan…) and many other countries and concerts.

Remi Panossian TrioRémi Panossian (piano)Rémi Panossian was born in 1983, Montpellier, France, he started playingpiano at the age of 7. He was only 10 years old when he attended a MichelPetrucciani concert and got hooked on jazz. He in collaboration with JulienDuthu received the “Best New Talent” award from L’Académie du Jazz, theFrench Jazz Academy.

Maxime Delporte (double bass)Maxime Delporte was born in 1976 in Johannesburg, South Africa, he studiedpiano and �ute, played guitar, drums and trumpet, but then chose doublebass as his principal instrument. He has performed in French Jazz Festivalslike « Nancy Jazz Pulsatons », « Jazz in Marciac », « Jazz sur son 31 », «Millau en Jazz », and in other countries ( Spain, Italia, Tunisia, Algeria,Morroco…)

Frédéric Petitprez (drums)Frédéric Petitprez was born in 1981 in Nice, he started playing drums at theage of 16. Since 2008 he’s been playing in many international jazz festivals:Caracas jazz fest (Venezuela), Taichung jazz fest(Taiwan), Jarasum jazz fest(South Corea), China, Japan(Tokyo jazz festival, jozenji festival), Belgium,France (Jazz 31, jazz à Sète, jazz à Vannes, Duc des Lombards,etc…), Brazil…

Like every year, the Fondation Alliance Française is organising aninternational photo contest, through its network of 800 AF in the world.

Participation in the contest is free. The contest is based on the

submission of photos that illustrate the theme “ ,Climate state ofemergency”.

Candidates are invited to present works illustrating the issues raised intheir home country in relation to climate change, both real & perceived,as well as its consequences on human lives, and the initiatives that aretaken or imagined to �ght against its negative impact.

This contest is open to anyone who is legally an adult in their country oforigin. The contest is not open to professional photographers who arerecognized for their artistic work & making exclusively their living fromit. French Film with English SubtitlesDirected by Albert Dupontel

Written and directed by French cinema bad boy Albert Dupontel,who also acts in the �lm, "9 mois ferme" has attracted more than 1,5million cinema-goers so far with no sign of running out of steam.

The �lm is the simple story of 40-year-old, unmarried, high-poweredjudge Ariane Felder (Sandrine Kiberlaine) who lets her hair down atthe �rm's New Year's eve party only to discover six months later thatshe is pregnant. Not only is she unable to remember what happenedin the evening in question, she has no idea who is the father of thechild. Worse is to come when a DNA test reveals he is Bob Nolan(Albert Dupontel), an ex-con who was recently arrested on a grislymurder charge and goes by the name of the 'eye gobbler'.

This �lm was nominated in six categories at the 39th Césarawards including Best Film and Best Director and Best Actor forDupontel, winning Best Actress for its co-star SandrineKiberlain and Best Writing – Original.

iA Hyderabadi, Ismat Mehdi, studied inMahbubia Girls School. She studied Frenchin the University of Geneva and Poitiers,German in Goethe Institut, Munich, andArabic in the College of Arts and Science,Baghdad. She taught these languages in theOsmania University Colleges, Hyderabadfrom I962 - 1967.

From 1991 – 1995, Ismat Mehdi wasdeputed to the Embassy of India, Cairo,Egypt, as First Secretary Culture andDirector of the Maulana Azad Centre forIndian Culture.

Widely travelled, Ismat Mehdi is associatedwith many cultural organizations inHyderabad. Now retired from CIEFL/EFLU,she is the managing trustee of SarvodayaInternational Trust A.P. Chapter. Its aim is topropagate the ideals and values ofMahatama Gandhi among the youth. She isalso involved in inter faith dialogue and isthe Muslim member of the team from Indiato the United States Presbyterian Meets.

The projects presented in this exhibition exemplify the sharedvalues of tomorrow’s sustainable urban community:transcending technical and doctrinaire discourse, theseprojects are above all architectural and urban.

For thiese reason, this projects address environmentalconcerns with a global vision that incorporates technicaldevices in urban context: a crowded city is the basis for aninnovative approach where man is no longer a bystander, butthe focus of attention. Urban density no longer excludesopen spaces and nature; thus buildings become gardens, andtheir structural limits merge with dynamic diversity. Energeticfrugality is of course very current, but it’s not an end in andof itself: rather, energy ef�ciency inspires cutting-edgearchitecture that will change our way of life as well as ourunderstanding of the city.

A wealthy editor Pierre Brochant and his friends have a competition:every Wednesday, each one of them invites the dumbest jackass hecan �nd for a dinner, where each one of the guests is invited to talkabout himself as much as possible. Later, after the guests saygoodbye, the group of friends makes fun and elects the most stupidand imbecile guest.

One day Pierre invites François Pignon, a man that makes"maquettes" to forget his beloved wife, who ran away with a friendof his. However, a tough pain in one vertebra of his spinal columndoes not allow Pierre to meet his friends for the game and so hestays alone with solicitous but clumsy and stupid François in hisapartment. Every attempt of François helping Pierre goes wrong,becoming a terrible nightmare for Pierre
