Component 1 – Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITS)
Purpose – priority for public transport vehicles at certain signalized intersections
Criteria for choice of intersections – biggest delays of public transport vehicles
Component scope: ITS equipment for 20 intersections ITS equipment in 750 PT vehicles Street works on 7 intersections

Component 2 – Electronic Information Boards (EIB)
Purpose – better information for the PT passengers and respectively increase of convenience and attractiveness of the service
Component scope – 600 remote controlled EIBs, displaying in real time: Type of transport vehicle and line number Actual time of arrival at the stop The time at the moment End station of the line

Component 5 – Renewal of the fleet – delivery of trolleybuses
Purpose: Increase of operational speed, convenience and reliability
for the passengers Decrease of maintenance costs and electricity consumption Continuation of the program for fleet renewal
Scope of component – 50 low-floor articulated trolleybuses with A/C in the passenger compartment
Estimated value: EUR 33 mln, VAT incl.

Component 6 – New tram line
Purpose – connection of r.a. Dianabad, Darvenitsa and Studentski Grad with the tram network and I-st metro line
Component scope: Construction of 4.6 km tramway track, of which 2.8 km new
tracks and reconstruction of 1.8 km abandoned tracks Construction of 17 new tram stations incl. platforms and
electronic information boards Estimated value: EUR 14.5 mln, VAT incl.

Component 8 – Rehabilitation of tram line along Bulgaria Blvd.
Purpose – renewal of one of the oldest but most intensively used tram lines, increase of the operational speed and decrease of the maintenance costs
Scope of the component – replacement of 3.7 km double track and catenary incl.: 80% on ballast prism 20% on concrete slab 13 new stations incl. electronic information boards

Sofia Integrated Urban Transport Project – sources of financing

Project for development of Sofia electrical transportIn the July 2009 the municipal company Sofia City Electrotransport
received 18 mln EUR loan from EBRD for: Renewal of the fleet (30 low floor solo trolleybuses) Rehabilitation of 3 rectifying substations
Loan parameters: Borrower – Sofia City Electrotransport Annual interest rate – EUROLIBOR + 3.4% Loan maturity – 12 years, Grace period – 2 years
In addition to the Loan, Sofia Municipality signed a Municipal Support Agreement with EBRD instead of providing bank guarantee or pledge for its daughter company.
