Connecting Francis’ words last week to “everyday worship” this week

Segue

Page 3: renewing worship

Everyday worship is about perspective! I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. (John

10:10)Everyday worship is allowing God to be our constant in our

daily lives, regardless of ups & downs (24/7) Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean

he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? … No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. (Romans 8:35)

Our most “practiced” style of worship, but often the one we’re least purposeful about Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my

follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9-23)

Everyday Worship

Page 4: renewing worship

Goals of everyday worshipLiving intentionally & actively for God in a way

that will be attractive and intriguing to outsiders

The fruits of the Spirit are ripe in you & visible to others

Establishes a worship-mindset; keeps you humble!

We’re going to look at everyday worship in three slices of our livesWhen you’re in your communityWhen you’re doing your workIn those God-given chance/isolated

opportunities

Everyday Worship

Page 5: renewing worship

Who, or what, is your “community?”Neighbors by proximity or regularity

What does worship look like in this community?Bucking the modern American trend of being a

home-bound recluse Knowing your neighbors by name; knowing

what’s going on in their livesDemonstrating hospitality, having an open-

home, community service & engagement

In your community

Page 6: renewing worship

What does your everyday worship look like in your

community?

Page 7: renewing worship

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”

Colossians 3.23, NLT“A dairy maid can milk cows to the glory of God.”

Martin Luther

What does being worshipful at work look like?Working with integrity & a sense of one's role as a

social creature who loves his neighbor as himself.Usually several shallow and a few deep relationships

At work

Page 8: renewing worship

How easy is it for you to be worshipful at work?

Page 9: renewing worship

Even our fleeting everyday encounters are opportunities to worshipLikely not an opportunity to become deeply

invested, but still a chance to be intentionalSo how?

The “is there anything I can pray about for you?” line may take some out of their comfort zone

Simple demonstrations of kindness, generosity, and assistance can allow us to be worshipful

When your life is God-centered, don’t be surprised by or neglect these opportunities – they will happen!

Gas stations, ATMs, & grocery stores

Page 10: renewing worship

Tell us about when you’ve capitalized, or failed to, on

one of those “chance encounters.”
