We put the “Yes” in Reno! There’s more to being accommodating than offering great hotel accommodations, and the team in Reno Tahoe USA is used to exceeding our customer’s expectations. When the Bowling Proprietor’s Association of America wanted to do something special for the ESPN broadcast of their 2012 U.S. Women’s Open bowling finals recently, we said, “Sure, no problem”… and coordinated the construction of four fully functional bowling lanes. Outside. On the city’s main street. During the week. The resulting event created a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle for the BPAA (and a unique challenge for the finalists, who had to calculate the effects of a gentle cross-breeze on their game), but it was all in a day’s work for Reno’s “Yes Men” (and Women!).

So what can we help accomplish for YOUR organization?

THIS SCENIC CORNER of northwestern Nevada is quite possibly one of the nation’s best-kept secrets for meeting planners. If you’ve never been here, you’re likely going to be surprised by what Northern Nevada has to offer. Mention Reno Tahoe and some people will conjure up images of other, more heavily populated parts of Nevada. But savvy planners know that in Reno Tahoe, the climate is different. The scenery is different. The activities and infrastructure are different. And the value is out of this world.

Need a better idea about why Reno Tahoe stands out? Consider these factors:

IT’S WHERE THE SOUTHWEST MEETS THE NORTHWEST: With its scenically strategic location at the meeting point of the U.S. Southwest and Northwest, Reno Tahoe offers the best of both regions. It’s closer to San Francisco than Las Vegas, and enjoys a wonderfully mild, year-round climate — with exciting outdoor activities for groups year-round.

OUTSTANDING INFRASTRUCTURE: Reno Tahoe packs a lot of beauty and functionality into one decidedly stunning, uncongested destination. Few cities with such a manageable size, in fact, offer so

many world-class facilities, from group-friendly hotels to large-scale meeting and event space — not to mention some 120 fl ights a day at the well-served Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

UNBEATABLE VALUE: Giving you more for your money is key to Reno Tahoe’s growing appeal with meeting planners. Here, you’ll fi nd amenities like free hotel shuttles and free parking, not to mention irresistible prices — like coffee for less than $40 a gallon! And most of the hotels are independent properties, which means the owner is on site and devoted to working with planners — no cumbersome, corporate bureaucracy here. Your budget sheet will like Reno Tahoe as much as your attendees will.

People are taking notice of Reno Tahoe’s appeal. Bookings with both consumer and group travel segments were way up for calendar year 2013, according to tourism offi cials, and expectations are high for 2014 and beyond.

If you haven’t considered Reno Tahoe yet, this handy guide will show you what makes it so special. In these pages you’ll get a peek at a destination that offers an exciting, refreshing change for your group — a place that offers better value, great facilities, spectacular scenery and superb service.

Get your group ready for Reno Tahoe USA. And prepare to be surprised.

VOTE OF CONFIDENCE: Apple has committed to a billion-dollar investment in Reno/Sparks for a massive server farm for iCloud and iTunes.

“The National Agricultural Aviation Association [NAAA] recommends Reno as a convention destination,” according to Lindsay Barber, NAAA’s manager of meetings, marketing and special projects at the organization’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Barber’s organization visited Reno recently for its 47th annual NAAA Convention & Exhibition, the world’s largest agricultural aviation convention and trade show.

The group’s endorsement is based on a number of factors, according to Barber. “The city is easy to navigate, whether on city streets or the highway, and there are numerous fl ights in and out of Reno to larger cities across the country each day,” she explains. “They have large convention hotels, great restaurants and gaming facilities [and] an incredible staff at the convention center. The Reno-Sparks Convention Center is a large facility, with large doors that allow us to place our agricultural aircraft on the exhibitor show fl oor.”

As with any worthwhile experience, the human touch is a big part of the equation for success. “It is a pleasure working with the RSCVA, the local convention and visitors bureau,” Barber adds. “We have used the RSCVA for all of our convention needs. Their staff has been able to handle all of our requests, not only with the convention center but in working with companies in the local community that help us to exceed the expectations of our convention attendees.”

Reno’s talented and enthusiastic convention staff was also crucial for the success of a recent gathering of the Trade Show News Network (TSNN), an online news source for the trade show industry. “In 2013, Trade Show News Network partnered with Reno Tahoe USA to bring in organizers from 50 of the fastest-growing and largest trade shows for the TSNN Awards, to celebrate their growth achievements,” says Rachel Wimberly, TSNN’s president and editor-in-chief. “Reno truly understood that this was an incredibly discerning group who really had ‘seen it all,’ running their big events in cities all over the U.S. They worked hand-in-hand with us in a truly collaborative way and created a very memorable experience that gave our attendees the ‘wow factor’ we were looking for. We couldn’t have asked for a better event and a better partnership.”

Reno also served as the ideal destination for the American Society of Association Executives: The fi rst annual NextGen Association Summit, which recently brought together a cross-section of up-and-coming young professionals chosen by their CEOs from around the country. “ASAE is proud to have partnered with the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority to host the NextGen Association Summit,” says Greg Melia, CAE, chief membership and volunteer relations offi cer at the Washington, D.C.-based organization. “Reno Tahoe USA provided the perfect environment to bring together up-and-coming association thought leaders to envision new futures for our profession. The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority went above and beyond, to help us choose the perfect venues to highlight the natural beauty, team-building activities, and world-class meeting space that Reno Tahoe has to offer. Our participants of all ages raved about their Reno Tahoe experience and left already talking about planning their next visit!”

TALKING TO THE RIGHT PERSONThere’s an adage in business that says “it’s not what you know but who you know.” The same can be said about the meetings and incentive industry — and in Reno Tahoe USA, you’ll be working directly with people who can make things happen.

Take the hoteliers, for example. Rather than dealing with the bureaucracies of international hotel chains, you’re more likely to be collaborating with independent properties headed by entrepreneurial types who really want your business and quickly negotiate the best deals.

You’ll fi nd similar benefi ts when planning events off-site. The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority owns and operates the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (with 500,000 square feet of fl exible meeting and exhibition space) and is skilled at helping planners work out the best deals. The RSCVA also owns and/or operates the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center, the National Bowling Stadium, the Reno Events Center and Wildcreek Golf Course. So no matter what your requirements, you’ll be in close contact with the people in charge.

The enthusiastic staff at the RSCVA really knows how to get results for groups. When the Bowling Proprietor’s Association of America wanted something special for the ESPN broadcast of their 2012 U.S. Women’s Open bowling fi nals, the RSCVA coordinated the construction of four fully functional bowling lanes — outside — on the main street, during the week. It was a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle for the BPAA, and yet another example of how Reno Tahoe makes it happen for planners.

RENO TAHOE USA UNVEILS FREE CONVENTION APP FOR MEETING PLANNERS AND ATTENDEESCustomized information makes event communications stand out

The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority is helping convention planners defi ne the future of their events, by providing a multi-platform application that gives the planner total control. The RSCVA is now offering qualifi ed meeting planners a customized app that will not only keep attendees more informed, but also allow organizers to update information as needed throughout the course of an event. The complimentary service represents more than a $10,000 value and provides an avenue for planners to engage a wider demographic of attendees.

Meeting planners will be able to fully customize the app’s features to include company logos, maps, schedules, key sponsor information and areas of interest throughout the Reno Tahoe area. Attendees will be able to add key speakers and exhibitors to a personal reminder list, and they’ll also have access to share their experiences on Twitter and Facebook while using the app. A photo album can also be created within the app, where only attendees can post and view pictures as the convention progresses.

Post-event feedback can also be generated through the app, giving attendees a simple way to express what pieces of the event were successful and what could be done better next year.

Meeting planners seeking more information can call John Leinen at (775) 827-7608.

The secret is out. Reno Tahoe USA is topping more lists than ever before, thanks to its quality of life, infrastructure, cuisine and myriad of available activities. Increasingly hip, decidedly stylish and naturally beautiful, this Northern Nevada hotspot is making big news around the nation, in more than 50 publications and websites, from A (AOL Real Estate) to Z (Zagat.com). And the praise just keeps on coming.

AMONG RENO TAHOE’S LATEST IMPRESSIVE RANKINGS:• #5 on “Top Spots for Winter Vacations” (The Weather Channel) • One of the “20 Most Crime-Free Cities in America” (AOL Real Estate)• #1 Lake in America: Lake Tahoe (USA Today Reader’s Poll) • #1 Ski Resort: Squaw Valley (Men’s Journal )• Reno Riverwalk - “32 Great Spring Trips” (Sunset Magazine)• Top 12 on America’s Cheapest Livable Cities (MSN Money)• Lake Tahoe listed as one of the top “52 Places to Go in 2014”

(New York Magazine)

EXCITING ACTIVITIESAs a year-round resort destination, Reno Tahoe also offers lots of warm-weather and cold-weather activities and excitement for groups looking to enjoy a bit of free time. In the winter, world-class ski resorts lead the awards; the Sierra Nevada mountain range, in fact, is listed as one of “11 of the World’s Most Beautiful Mountain Ranges” (Unoffi cialNetworks.com). Lake Tahoe is #1 among “34 Places that are Even Better during Winter” (Buzzfeed Travel), while Reno is one of “Top 10 Emerging Ski Towns” (National Geographic Magazine) and Squaw Valley, Northstar and Kirkwood rank with some of the “Best Ski Schools in the U.S.” (Men’s Journal).

Lake Tahoe — North America’s highest Alpine lake — has also picked up several additional noteworthy warm weather awards, ranking in an international list of “10 Lakeside Vacations that Have it All” (Yahoo! Travel), while Sand Harbor at Incline Village, Lake Tahoe is one of the “10 Best Beaches for Families” (FamilyVacationCritic.com).

GREAT TASTEReno Tahoe is a rewarding place for groups to dine, regardless of budget. In addition to its #1 rating from The Daily Meal, and Campo’s selection by Esquire Magazine as one of “The 20 Best New Restaurants in America,” the region’s diverse and rapidly expanding food scene is home to hotspots like the GourMelt Grilled Cheese Truck, which has earned double honors as one of the “10 Best Grilled Cheese Trucks” (CultureCheeseMag.com) and also as one of the “101 Best Food Trucks in America” (The Daily Meal). Chapel Tavern, in Reno’s hip MidTown District, was recently named one of the “10 Best Places to Drink Rum” in the country (Zagat.com). And a mainstay in downtown Reno for more than 50 years, the “Little” Nugget diner with it’s Awful Awful burger, was listed as one of the “51 Great Burger Joints Across the U.S.” (USA Today).

WALK THIS WAY: Reno also scored in Travel + Leisure Magazine’s roundup of “America’s Coolest River Walks.”

10 MARCH 2014

It’s no wonder that Reno Tahoe USA is on the radar for more meetings and incentives than ever before. The destination is in a constant state of improvement, making it even more attractive for groups. Here are some of the ways that Reno Tahoe is upping the ante for meetings, conventions and incentive groups.

BIG UPGRADES FOR JA NUGGET CASINO RESORTThis 1,600-room hotel — which offers sweeping views of the Sierra Nevada as well as more than 110,000 square feet of meeting space — is gearing up for major upgrades as part of a planned $50 million property-wide renovation program that’s the result of the property’s recent sale. Expect renovations and updates to the casino fl oor, rooms, restaurants, convention space and exterior. About $20 million will be spent in the next two years alone, including a new 10,000 square-foot Gilley’s Saloon, Dance Hall and Bar-B-Que opening mid-2014.

NEW COMFORTS AT HYATT REGENCY LAKE TAHOE RESORT, SPA AND CASINOA $20 million renovation of the Hyatt Regency’s 398 guest rooms — as well as the Sierra Café and Spa Terrace Conference Center — has brought new comforts and amenities to this popular hotel. The guest rooms are now handsomely furnished with oak furniture, new carpeting, back-lit mirrors, modern showers, locally themed artwork and “jack packs” — all-in-one media hubs that pair televisions with laptops and media players. A $500,000 upgrade to the meeting space — which includes seven rooms and 3,000 square feet — was completed at the end of 2011, with modern audiovisual capabilities and drop-down screens. And, the resort’s sandy beach and breathtaking mountain views are legendary.

FRESH STYLE AT GRAND SIERRA RESORT AND CASINOA $25 million renovation at the 2,000-room Grand Sierra — which has more than 200,000 square feet of meeting and exhibitt space — is bringing lots of fresh options for groups. Visitors familiar with the property will immediately notice the upgraded lobby, while the chicly redesigned guestrooms refl ect the style of the property’s Summit Suites. After dark, guests can relax at a new lounge called WET, where live music and great bartenders make every night special. And wild, new nightclub — complete with swimming pool — will make its debut later this year.

RETURN OF A LEGEND AT CAL NEVA RESORT, SPA & CASINOFrank Sinatra was a previous owner of Cal Neva, and while it’s been a few years since the Kennedys, the Rat Pack and Marilyn Monroe checked in, this 219-room property — set along the shores of Lake Tahoe — is preparing to become a legend reborn when it reopens its doors in late 2015. The hotel’s current owner, Napa Valley-based real estate developer Criswell-Radovan, is overseeing a massive renovation and update that is sure to put it on the map for VIP groups, and discerning travelers, in the near future.

A Fresh Approach

BUDGET CONSCIOUS: Coffee costs less than $40 per gallon in Reno Tahoe, with banquet menus and hotel room rates that are equally competitive.

PROPS FOR THE PEPPERMILL RESORT HOTELThe 1,635-room Peppermill Resort — which has 106,000 square feet of meeting space — is riding high from a year of multiple accolades. In 2013, the property won awards for “Best Casino Spa,” “Best Eco-Spa,” “Best for Affordability,” “Best for LGBT” and “Best for Romance,” all in the Spafi nder 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards. The hotel’s Bimini Steakhouse and Romanza Ristorante Italiano, meanwhile, received Wine Spectator’s 2013 Award of Excellence, and the Bimini Steakhouse also was awarded the Four Diamond rating from AAA. In 2011, the hotel completed a two-year project to use geothermal energy to heat all 2.1 million square feet of the property, including the 43,000-square-foot Spa Toscana and two outdoor swimming pools and spas.

NEW RESTAURANTS & VENUES AT SILVER LEGACY RESORT CASINOSome $6 million was pumped into this 1,720-room property in 2013. Among the newest reasons to visit the Silver Legacy is Hussong’s Cantina, a hot new restaurant that brings fl avor from Mexico, the birthplace of the Margarita, in the form of an impressive cocktail menu and cuisine that refl ects tasty twists on Baja Mexican cuisine. New venues at the Silver Legacy — which has 50,000 square feet of meeting space — also include the Aura Ultra Lounge, where live DJs and specialty drinks add to the allure.

EXCITEMENT IN STORE AT THE WHITNEY PEAK HOTELOne of Reno’s newest hotels, the Whitney Peak is the result of a major reimagining of the former Fitzgeralds Hotel. The dramatically revamped property has comfortably contemporary décor, a prime downtown location and two very unique venues: Base Camp, an urban adventure park (with what is billed as the world’s tallest climbing wall) that is to reopen in spring 2014 following renovations, and CARGO, an 1,100-person concert venue, for which an opening date will soon be announced.

Reno Tahoe USA has lots of state-of-the-art meeting and event space, with convention centers, expo facilities and hotels offering nearly every imaginable type of space. But don’t let your imagination stop there. Reno Tahoe is also chock full of truly unique venues that offer experiences you won’t fi nd anywhere else. Here are just a few ideas to get you started.

• SPICE UP YOUR GATHERING WITH SOME FRIENDLY COMPETITION AT THE KINGPIN CLUB AT THE NATIONAL BOWLING STADIUM.

Groups of 50 to 150 can enjoy the royal treatment in the National Bowling Stadium’s Kingpin Club, where drinks, food and friendly competition make for a lively event. Designed by Brunswick, the Kingpin Club features 10 professional lanes, a full bar and multiple HD screens, with fresh contemporary décor. Larger (MUCH larger) groups can also make use of the 78 championship bowling lanes upstairs and what is billed as the longest video screen in the world, capable of projecting 440-foot-wide video images. Also noteworthy for presentations is the 172-seat I-WERKS theater, which has a four-story screen and six-channel digital surround-sound audio system. Smaller groups may also enjoy the Stadium Club, an attractive space with turn-of-the-last-century décor, a full bar, large screen TV, pool table and great view of downtown.

• MAKE IT A “MOVING” EXPERIENCE AT THE NATIONAL AUTOMOBILE MUSEUM.

More than 200 vintage and collectible automobiles provide an unforgettable backdrop for private events at the National

Automobile Museum, which can host groups of 50 to 1,200 people. Located conveniently in downtown Reno, the 100,000-square-foot facility has room for dancing, as well as historic street settings that serve as memorable venues for cocktail parties and other events. Permanent exhibits include celebrity autos (including the 1949 Mercury that James Dean drove in “Rebel Without a Cause”), art and auto-related artifacts and memorabilia, and a special exhibit dedicated to the 1908 New York to Paris Auto Race, featuring the 1907 Thomas Flyer that actually won the race (and is worth millions of dollars today!). The museum’s group-friendly offerings are rounded out with a 157-seat theater with a 10’ by 19’ high-defi nition screen.

• ADMIRE THE VIEW AT THE NEVADA MUSEUM OF ART. The Nevada Museum of Art offers a sophisticated setting with

superb amenities and service for groups up to 500. Designed by award winning architect Will Bruder and inspired by the Black Rock Desert, the museum’s noteworthy meeting spaces include the Donald W. Reynolds Grand Hall, a soaring atrium with more than 4,000 square feet of space and lots of natural light; the 180-seat Wayne and Miriam Prim Theater, which has a digital Dolby 5.1
