REOPENING UNDER OPTION 1 & OPTION 2 Governor Cooper announced this week that N.C. public schools would return to school for the upcoming year utilizing a mixture of in-person and remote learning (Plan B). The Governor’s order also allows school districts flexibility to utilize remote learning as an option for all students. KCS is looking forward to the start of the 2020-2021 school year and welcoming everyone back to school. We are excited to offer options that provide flexibility to families and hope the descriptions below provide you with some information to allow you to make some decisions with your student. We are asking that families commit to one of the two options through a survey that will be shared early next week. Pending review and approval by the Board of Education, Kannapolis City Schools will offer two options: Option 1 - Blended Learning (Plan B) - Students will attend class for in-person instruction for 2 days each week. - Students will participate in three days of remote learning off campus each week. - Students in this plan will be instructed and supported by their KCS classroom teacher(s) for in-person and remote instruction. - Classes will be at or below 50% capacity, wear face masks, and students will be spaced 6 feet apart. Option 2 - Remote Learning Only - Virtual instruction will be provided over an online platform and take place off campus. - Students in this plan will have limited access to KCS teachers. - Kindergarten through fifth grade students who have committed to full-time virtual learning will need to participate for 9 weeks at a time. - Kannapolis Middle School and A. L. Brown High School students who opt for virtual learning will need to commit to working virtually for one semester at a time. - If, at the end of first quarter for K-5 students and first semester for 6-12 students, a student opts to return to in-person learning, they may choose to do so at that time. Surveys will be due on July 24th. Once survey data has been collected, we will use that information to finalize plans and will provide families with specifics concerning classroom teachers, learning platforms, bus routes and other essential information.
