Repetition is in design most often. I am focusing on repetition in
architecture because it interests me.
Repetition is a common compositional technique in
architecture, it can be seen in the rows of structure, a grid of openings, or the stacking of a
material. In columns, windows, bricks, or other elements, repetition helps to create a
rhythm for a building,
Windows are probably the most-repeated elements (minus
materials like bricks) in residential
architecture.
In this picture the repetition
of the rectangle is used for the windows and
the shelves as well as the furniture.
Repetition in Architecture-Repetition is a concept of systematic rhythm. As human beings we are naturally engaged in experiencing things that are done in a rhythm such as Music, Dance; where time and movements are coordinated. In Architecture Rhythm is present in columns, windows, walls and others elements of a building designed in such way that it transmit a repetition of the same element.
