IV. Overview of Programmes Conducted by the IMH (July – December 2012)

Public Education (1) Certificate Course in Mental Health (MHC06 & MHC07) The 12-hour Certificate Course in Mental Health (MHC) was specifically designed to serve

the needs of the society since October 2009. It provided training on the common mental

illnesses and the skills in managing mental illnesses to professionals, health care

professionals and related personnel who may come into contact with people with mental

health problems or their carers in their daily practice by comprehensive lectures, case

discussions/ vignettes, and interactive workshops. In view of the overwhelming responses

from the previous classes, two courses were re-run in the second half year of 2012.

The sixth course (MHC06) was conducted on 18 and 25 August 2012 and the seventh course

(MHC07) was conducted on 1 and 15 December 2012, with 84 and 70 participants

respectively including health care and educational professionals of the Hospital Authority,

government departments and non-government organisations, etc.

Territories West Cluster (NTWC) Annual Quality Conference (AQC) 2012 organised by the

Cluster Quality and Safety Division. An abstract on “Mental Health Promotion in Hong Kong:

a way to defeat stigmatisation and enhance the early intervention of mental illness in the

community” was submitted and selected for oral presentation at the NTWC Annual Quality

Conference 2012 on 7 December 2012. Dr. Bonnie SIU, Convener of the Public Education

recognising stress and anxiety and skills in dealing with the psychological reactions of

victims in a first aid situation. A total of 150 members of the general public were trained in

three BPLS Provider Courses in July, August and November 2012 respectively.

(4) Educational Materials The publications of the IMH provide a good source of information on mental illnesses and

self-help guide to patients and the general public. The information is handy and easily

accessible at the service units of CPH and online at the IMH website. To ensure the

information is accurate and up-to-date, it has been an ongoing exercise conducted by the

Public Education Subcommittee to review the educational materials and reprint those

pamphlets on high demands. The materials updated from June to December 2012 are listed in

the following section.

Educational pamphlets including “Sleepwalking” ( 夢 遊 ) and “Obsessive Compulsive

Disorder” (強迫症) were reviewed and reprinted. The updated materials are available for free

distribution in different service units and public access on the IMH website.

11

In addition, two pamphlets of the Royal College of Psychiatrists were updated and uploaded

to the IMH website:
