Program Intended Student Learning Outcomes (Program ISLOs)

1. Students will be able to demonstrate appropriate knowledge in Accounting, Management, Marketing, and Information Management Systems.

2. Students will be able to construct coherent forms of written communication in their professional work.

3. Students will be able to compose and present effective oral presentations.

1. Peregrine Associate Level CPC-Based COMP Exam Program ISLOs Assessed by this Measure: 1, 6

Aggregate score is at or above the IACBE (US) Aggregate score in the Accounting, Management, and Marketing portions of the exam (ISLO 1, 6).

2. Capstone Project Program ISLOs Assessed by this Measure: 2, 3, 4, 7

70% of all students will score in the “proficient” level or above in the written communication, oral communication, and critical analysis and reasoning components of the capstone rubric (ISLO 2, 3, 4). 70% of all students will score in the “proficient” level or above in the components of the rubric associated with ‘critical thinking and problem solving when applying accounting principles and procedures’ (ISLO 7).

3. Internship Evaluation Program ISLOs Assessed by this Measure: 5

70% of all employers evaluate a student’s ability to meet the demands of the internship placement as “excellent” or “above average” (ISLO 5).

1. Peregrine Associate Level CPC-Based COMP Exam:

The average scores for Business Administration - Accounting program students relative to the IACBE (US) Aggregate score for Associate degree students by topic area is as follows:

Accounting (ISLO 1, 6): 13.06% higher Management (ISLO 1): 8.96% higher Marketing (ISLO 1): 3.74% higher

2. Capstone Project:

The following percentages of AAS Business Administration-Accounting students scored at the “proficient” level or above in the following areas: Written Communication: Content: 83% Written Communication: Disciplinary Connections: 83% Written Communication: Syntax and Mechanics: 79% Oral Communication: Delivery: 100%* Critical Analysis and Reasoning: Explanation of Issues: 83% Critical Anaylsis and Reasoning: Conclusion and Related Outcomes: 75% Integration of Learning: Connections to Discipline: 79% *This category contained a very small sample of students, possibly compromising the statistical significance of this outcome

3. Internship Evaluation:

94% of all Employers were either very satisfied, or Satisfied with the Berkeley College Internship Program. 87.2% of all Employers reported Interns were well-prepared for the work they were assigned. 93.59% of Employers report Interns as having made valuable contributions to their organization. 62.16% of Employers reported that Interns did not lack knowledge, skills, or qualities needed to fulfill their duties. 92.31% of Employers were either very satisfied, or satisfied with the general performance of Berkeley College Interns. 90.67% of all Employers surveyed reported that they would hire a Berkeley College Alumni, given the opportunity. * Data collection methods do not allow for the disaggregation of data by program.

The percentage of Business Administration - Accounting degree AAS students who agreed or strongly agreed to each statement is as follows: 100% - I believe that I am able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills in a business setting (ISLO 2, 3). 100% - I believe that I am able to demonstrate critical reasoning in a business setting (ISLO 4). 100% - I believe that I will be able to apply what I have learned in my major in a business setting (ISLO 5).

The percentage of Business Administration - Accounting degree AAS students who agreed or strongly agreed that they are able to apply each content area in a business environment is as follows:

82% - Marketing (ISLO 1) 92% - Management (ISLO 1) 75% - Information Management Systems (ISLO 1) 92% - Accounting (ISLO 1, 6)

The student survey did not collect data about the numbers of students who indicated that they believed that they are able to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving when applying Accounting principles and procedures (ISLO 7).

Proposed Courses of Action for Improvement in Learning Outcomes for which Performance Targets Were Not Met:

1. ISLO 1: The performance target for this ISLO was not met only in the Student Survey in the category of information management. All other areas were at or above the performance target. The Larry L. Luing School of Business will continue to monitor student performance following the recent implementation of the new business core curriculum.

2. ISLO 2: Met

3. ISLO 3: The Larry L. Luing School of Business had insufficient data to assess the oral communications component of the Capstone Project. Although competencies in oral communication are included throughout the academic program, the Larry L. Luing School of Business will need to take corrective action to collect and analyze oral communications assessment data within each degree program.

4. ISLO 4: Met

5. ISLO 5: While this performance target for this ISLO was met in the Internship Evaluation for all academic business unit students as a whole, data collection methods did not allow for the assessment of Internship Evaluations on a program-specific basis. The Larry L. Luing School of Business will engage in developing a method of collecting and evaluating Internship Evaluation assessment data on a program-specific basis.

7. ISLO 7: In the Student Survey, The Larry L. Luing School of Business had insufficient data to assess whether students will demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving when applying Accounting principles and procedures. In the future, the assessment of this ISLO will in both the Capstone Project Assessment and a question will be added to the Student Survey to adderess this area.
