Tanika Singh Representation Emily Wilson: Emily Wilson is a mixed race female and is the main character in the opening sequence and is represented in a stereotypical way. Her ethnicity is a counter type as the main character is usually White. She is represented as a vulnerable girl, which is a typical convention that is seen in thriller films. Emily is the character that is in trouble and is seeking help – which is another typical convention of a thriller film as girls are usually shown as weak and in danger. She is shown as being terrified and frightened of who she is trying to escape which again represents her as weak and vulnerable. Antagonists: In our opening sequence, there are a group of antagonists of mixed ethnicity’s who are following Emily. This is a counter type as the main characters are usually all White British/American. The group of antagonists are portrayed stereotypically. They are shown to be brave and fearless which is a typical trait for antagonists to have in thriller films. The antagonists are all carrying weapons and are all masked – which is another typical convention seen in thriller films. This represents them as scary and threatening characters.
