How does your media product represent particular social groups?

AGE

Through the survey I conducted before the production of my magazine, I found that it was predominantly older females, over 35s, that listened to my music. Therefore, in order to tackle this quite narrow target age group, I had to make my magazine appealing to both ages.

AGE

In order to make my magazine appealing to the younger generation, who much preferred Pop and RnB as genres, I tried to make the front cover, which is considered to be the main attraction as relatable as possible. This was done successfully through the use of the main image.

To represent age, I used a young country artist as my model

The designs, such as the swirls, have connotations of fun and quirkiness which the younger audience look for.

The use of a brighter colour provides a contrast with the back and greys. The use of orange is also symbolic of youth, unlike the darker tones throughout the cover

AGEI predominantly used colour schemes and composition in order to fully represent my main target audience. Older females tend to move towards elegance and sophistication. In order to mimic this theme. I aimed to create a minimalist and modern look to my front cover.

The large, bold sans serif typography allow it to look more modern and sleeker, making it more appealing to the more mature readers.

Monochrome and greyscale theme helps to enable it have a simpler and elegant appearance, which is key in representing my target audience

The price is catered more towards those more financially stable and can afford it weekly, such as older readers

GENDERWith my target audience being predominantly female, I have decided to pursue with having a female as my main cover model. This is able to successfully represent women in a usually male dominated music genre.

The use of a young woman in the front cover is used to empower younger females to be more active in this niche genre.

The use of elegant designs might also have connotations of femininity.

GENDER

There is however, less emphasis placed on masculinity in my front cover. Although I feel that even thought they are not my main target audience, they still continue to buy the magazine.

The main way in which I was able to represent the male gender was through the block typography and darker, more monochromatic colours.

The use of darker colours highlights the dark and brooding nature men are usually thought to have.

AGE

The use of various social media buttons is key in being able to successfully represent the younger target audience. Social media provides us a platform to communicate with our younger consumers, allowing us to respond to their feedback.

Younger model. This helps to represent and promote the younger generation and influence them.

AGE

I feel as though the main component in this page that is able to effectively represent age is the layout. The minimalist theme of the contents page, especially through the image, have connotations of serene and relaxing feeling, many of which the older target audience, I think, crave.

GENDER

Again, similar to the front cover, I was able to represent females mainly through the use of the main image, which occupied the entire page, bringing significant focus to the image.

As well as this, I feel as though the use of this particular typography brought elements of sophistication and modern elegance to the page, which enabled it to represent the older more feminine target audience.
