Supermodels made a huge appearance in the early 90’s.

Kate Moss was short at 5’6 and slim compared to previous models making a change in the industry.

Naomi Campell was the first Black women to be on the cover of a french magazine. Originally declined because she was black, advertisers said they’d pull out if the magazine didn’t accept her.

WOMEN IN THE 90s – Statistics

In 1970 two-thirds of women agreed that "most men are basically kind, gentle and thoughtful." In the 1990 poll only half of the 3,000 women who were surveyed agreed.

Most women rated men negatively on their egos, libidos and domesticity. 42% called men "basically selfish and self-centered.“

WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT WOMEN IN THE 90S?Women in the 90s generally grew to become much less

dependent on men, were more likely to have their own job.

Fashion became more relaxed and the ‘natural look’ became more excepted.

They began to see 90s women as being about having the confidence to be yourself – shown in dress codes, music and movies of the time. It became about being yourself and being comfortable with who you are.

Advertisers are beginning to acknowledge these differences in women and adapted ads for them, trying to show a slice of real life.

However there were always still going to be adverts which featured the obvious glamorous fake women.
