Young White British

• My magazine represents the young White British demographic, my magazine’s main target audience. The model shots I used are all of females despite the fact that my target audiences are male and females, and are white in an effort to relate to my target audience.

Front cover

• The model shot is a pluralistic representation of my target audience as it challenges the stereotype of teenagers being angry/aggressive. The models are not dressed provocatively, which challenges the convention of models being dressed sexually. This challenges Laura Mulvey’s male gaze theory and also attempts to make the magazine more attractive to females by making it seem less male-targeted.

Contents page

• The model image on this page operates the same set of conventions as the shot on the first page, with the model’s clothing challenging the convention of models being scantily dressed. The image represents a hegemonic view of my target demographic, with the model being seen as confident and possibly conceited. This is reinforced by the fact that the model is maintaining direct mode of address with the reader.

Double page spread

• The shot on this page is different in that the model uses a more provocative pose. This could be seen as reinforcing the Laura Mulvey male gaze theory. The shot maintains direct mode of address with the readers, which demonstrates a pluralistic ideology in the shot due to it demonstrating her herself as being strong.
