Reprocessing Steps This document outlines key components that must be included during each stage of reprocessing in order to achieve disinfecon or sterilizaon of medical equipment/devices in community health care sengs. For more informaon visit www.publichealthontario.ca or email [email protected]. • Remove visible soil at point-of-use • Transport to reprocessing area in cleanable, closed, puncture-resistant, container In decontaminaon area: • Disassemble instrument as required • Sort instruments in sets • Soak/pre-treat with enzymac cleaner • Manually clean with detergent soluon • Clean lumens with brush • Flush lumens • Rinse • Inspect • Follow with mechanical cleaning if available • Rinse with water • Air dry or dry with lint-free towel • Dry lumens using compressed, filtered air High-level Disinfecon (HLD): • Monitor soluon efficacy • Soak per manufacturer’s recommendaons • Rinse thoroughly and dry • Document process parameters Steam Sterilizaon: • Inspect, lubricate, and reassemble as required • Package and label, including internal/external chemical indicator • Perform biological indicator test each day the sterilizer is used • Document sterilizaon parameters (me, temperature, pressure) • Store and transport in a manner that avoids contaminaon or damage to packaging 1 Pre-clean 2 Disassembly, sorng and soaking or mechanical) 3 Cleaning (manual 4 Rinsing and drying 55 High-level disinfecon or sterilizaon 6 Storage Reference: Ontario Agency for Health Protecon and Promoon (Public Health Ontario), Provincial Infecous Diseases Advisory Commiee.
