Snakes

• This first reptile is called a snake. Snakes are limbless and flexible creatures. Snakes are found in a huge range of colors. Snakes eat termites, birds, frogs, and even other reptiles. Snakes are also found in many places including water forests, deserts and prairies.

Snakes

• There about 2,700 of snakes. Out of these there are 375 snakes that are venomous. Snakes hibernate during the winter. They must shed their skin three to six times per year. Snakes mostly hunt their preys at night.

Lizards

• This reptile is called a Lizard. These reptiles are cold- blooded. You can find them on fence posts, rocks, logs, walls and many more places. They have dry, scaly skin and clawed feet. Lizard tails are fragile and easily break off.

Lizards

• Most Lizards eat insects. Some are vegetarians and a few will eat small mammals and eggs. Many Lizards can defend themselves by bitting. There are two species that are venomous. But there is only one lizard that is the Komodo dragon.

Turtles

• This third reptile is a turtle. There are about 300 species of turtles. Turtles have a hard shell that protects them like a shield. They can hide their heads inside their shells when attacked by predators. These reptiles are slow movers.

Turtles

• Turtles can live up to 200 years. Their color is always between yellow, greenish, and black depending on the species. A common turtle is the sea turtle. They are known as Earth’s most ancient creatures. But many turtle species are endangered.

Frogs

• This fourth reptile is a frog. A frog is an amphibian. They can live in both water and land. But they must be near swamps, ponds or in a damp place. This is because they will die if their skin dries out.

Frogs

• Frogs belong to the order Anura which is the largest of the three group amphibians. Frogs and toads are included in one of the three. The largest living species of frog in the world is the Goliath frog. Leaping or jumping is a way for a frog to escape their predators. There are also some frogs that can not jump so they climb, swim, or glide instead.

Alligator

• The fifth and final reptile is a alligator. There are two true species of alligator. One of them is the American Alligator. Both female and male have an armored body with a muscular flat tail. They also have long snouts, four short legs and a rough hide with scales. American alligators can live up to 50 years in the wild.

Alligator

• Alligators are usually found in fresh water such as rivers, lakes, and swamps. They like to eat fish, turtles, snakes, and even small mammals. Young alligators have bright yellow stripes on their tail while adults have dark stripes. The average size of a adult alligator is about 800 pounds. Unfortunately, these species are also endangered animals.
