4.

A frog is a cold-blooded animal. Most frogs start life in the water as an egg. A tadpole hatches out of the egg. A tadpole has no legs and breathes with gills like a fish.

6.

As a tadpole grows, its tail gets smaller and four legs appear on its body. Then it grows lungs. Its gills grow smaller and disappear. Finally it is ready to hop out of the water. It has become a frog.

8.

Some frogs are never tadpoles. They just hatch from eggs. Some frogs become adults in a few months. Some frogs take up to two years to become adults.

10.

There are over 4,000 kinds of frogs. Frogs live everywhere. Most frogs live near ponds, lakes, and rivers. Some frogs live in rain forest trees. Other frogs live under ground in the desert.

12.

Some frogs eat insects, worms, small fish, and slugs. Some frogs eat other small animals. Frogs catch their food with their long, sticky tongues. Most frogs swallow their food without chewing.

14.

Frogs stuff food into their mouths with their front feet. Some frogs also can pull their eyes into their heads and use them to push the food down their throats.

16.

Frogs can be many sizes. The smallest frog is less than an inch fully grown. The largest frogs are Goliath frogs. They can be more than two feet long.

18.

Some frogs can change colors to hide from an enemy. Some colorful frogs, like dart frogs, are poisonous. Animals that eat them can

become sick or die.

Frogs help people by eating insects that make us sick or eat our food. We should try to help save places where frogs live. We should keep frogs and their homes safe.
