Unity leads to victory! This was proven by all the Sorsoganons who participated and gave their
best effort in the attempt for the Guinness World Record.
The Philippine Statistics Authority
(PSA) Sorsogon, as one of the partici-
pating agencies in the Province
made history when they bagged the
world record for the “Largest Filipino
Folkdance”. Ten (10) participants
from PSA Sorsogon had been part of
the 7,127 dancers who gracefully
performed the traditional Bicolano
dance of love and courtship as part
of the celebration of the 2019
Kasanggayahan Festival, a month-
long commemoration of the
Sorsogon’s 125th year as a province.

Before this triumphant event, the office was overloaded
with the scheduled activities for October 2019 in cele-
bration of the 30th National Statistics Month (NSM), and
who would have thought that joining the “Pantomina sa
Tinampo” could be possible? But those activities did not
become a hindrance in the willingness of the office to
help the other agencies particularly in response to the
invitation of the Provincial Government of Sorsogon,
headed by Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero to join the
“Pantomiina sa Tinampo”, an attempt for the Guinness
World Record.

Ten (10) participants or five (5) pairs of dancers were
sent to represent the office since PSA Sorsogon has only
8 Regular employees and 7 Job Order Workers, where
the female outnumbered the male employees. Series of
meetings and rehearsals were attended to be guided
accordingly with the does and don’ts in the preparation
and performance of the said dance as set by the Guin-
ness World Record, London.
Attendance in the Meetings and rehearsals conducted by the Department of Tourism (DOT) in preparation for
the 2019 Pantomina sa Tinampo
Specific dress codes for male and female dancers, slippers, hairstyles, accessories and dance
steps were given detailed. Synchronization of dance movements was highlighted because this
would be one basis for judgment, one move can disqualify the dancer and 10 percent errors of
the total participants will automatically lose the chance in achieving the dreamed world record.

On October 31, 2019, the most awaited event
happened along Magsaysay Street going to
Rompeolas Baywalk, Sorsogon City. Almost all
the Sorsoganons were gathered to witness the
hard work and determination of every partici-
pant. The registration started at 2:00 PM, upon
registration, the total 7, 539 registered partici-
pants including the Governor of Sorsogon to-
gether with his wife Ms. Heart Evangelista, posi-
tioned their selves to their respective place of
assignment. A mixed of emotions felt by every
participant as they were waiting for the right
time to show the world that the province of
Sorsogon can set a record. At 4:30 PM, an 8
minutes final rehearsal was made to warm up
the participants and finally at exactly 5:00 PM,
the 30 minutes attempt for the “Largest Filipino
Folk Dance” started.
There were drones, CCTV’s and cameras in moni-
toring the overall performance. But the most im-
portant witness on the said event was the official
adjudicator from Guinness World Records, Mr.
Swapnil Dangarikar of India to proclaim the final
judgment.
Yes! It may be a fearful performance but nothing can stop the people of Sorsogon even the
continuous rainfall, either thirst or hunger to achieve the desired goal. Nervousness was defeat-
ed by the strong desire to win the challenge. At the mid of their performance, everybody en-
joyed and gave their best dance.

After the said performance, all the participants
joined together at the Rompeolas to know the
results of their effort. They waited for almost 2
hours, and upon checking every detail, the good
news was announced. Out of the 7,539 total par-
ticipants, 7,127 of them performed the dance
correctly. This made the Sorsogon to have the
successful entry for the Guinness World Record on
the “Largest Filipino Folkdance”. Happiness and
fulfillment have replaced the tiredness, thirst, and
hunger of every participant as they heard the
special announcement.
The effort, positive mindset, determination,
and cooperation is real! This is the history of
every Sorsoganon. The moment that every
participant moved their feet and body be-
came a big challenge for they performed
as one, go in one direction and achieve
the set goal. This is a proof that all things
will be possible with unity and same under-
standing, and it is good to share the suc-
cess if we did this together, as Howard
Schultz said, “Victory is much more mean-
ingful when it comes not just from one per-
son, but from the joint achievements of
many”. Governor Francis “Chiz Escodero together with his wife Ms. Heart Evangelista
