Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare is pleased to be hosting the 2017 Northeast Behavioral Healthcare Conference.

This growing conference gives professionals the opportunity to develop interdisciplinary approaches to treatment. We invite professionals to join us as we focus on “Promoting Change in People, Programs, and Practices.”

Change is a constant presence in the behavioral healthcare field. This year’s conference is seeking presentations that highlight the range and scope of innovative practices that enhance outcomes by harnessing the opportunities inherent in periods of transition.

We invite you to submit a presentation for one of the four conference tracks:

1. Executive/leadership track to cover leadership and policy.

2. Clinical track to offer ideas and practice innovations in multiple disciplines including social work, mental health counseling, and recreation therapy.

3. Recovery track to incorporate presentations on peer work, the recovery movement, and recovery-oriented systems of care.

4. Research track to share new ideas and practices in the field.

Our goal is that each track includes presentations gathered from a diverse set of practitioners at various levels of the behavioral healthcare field.

We also invite submissions of poster presentations for display in the main conference hall. These posters should reflect the themes highlighted above.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. James Prochaska

Named one of the five most influential authors in Psychology by the Institute for Scientific Information and the American Psychological Society, Dr. Prochaska is one of the originators of the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change and the author of more than 400 publications on behavior change for health promotion and disease prevention. He was recently recognized as one of three most preeminent clinical psychologists in the world today.

He has served as Principal Investigator on over $70 million in research grants on the prevention of cancer and other chronic diseases and has received numerous honors, including major awards from the American Psychological Association, the Society for Prospective Medicine, and Harvard University.

The first psychologist to win a Medal of Honor for Clinical Research from the American Cancer Society, Dr. Prochaska has also received both an Innovators Award and an Innovators Combating Substance Abuse Award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Healthtrac Foundation Education Award.

He is co-founder and consultant to Pro-Change Behavior Systems, Inc., He serves as Director of the Cancer Prevention Research Center and Professor of Psychology at the University of Rhode Island and is the author of three other books: Systems of Psychotherapy, The Transtheoretical Approach: Crossing Traditional Boundaries of Therapy, and Changing for Good.

Dr. Prochaska earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Wayne State University.

Poster Presentation GuidePlease use the following guidlelines when preparing your posters

All posters should use APA citation, be 36”x 48”,and organized into the following sections:

1. Heading (S, 2013)

• Title of the poster

• Authors of the poster » Title, major/department, and institution of the authors

2. Introduction

• Justification/Rationale – Why did you do this study? Who could benefit from the results?

• Purpose – Exactly what did you do?

• Null or alternative hypotheses

3. Methodology

• Sample characteristics » Sample size » Gender » Age range and mean (or median if the age is skewed)

» Ethnicity » Any other characteristics that maybe of interest to the study or viewer/reader.

• Procedures

• Variables and measurement

• List variable, scale, number of items, response choices, and reliability (if applicable)

4. Results

• Analyses

• Findings

5. Discussion

• Why did this study get the results? Is it similar to past research? Can theory explain the findings? Is there something about this data collection that made the results different?
