The City has already applied for the required permit per the answer to Question 1. The contractor is not required to secure a permit to injure, destroy or protect trees. Q6. REVISED SECTION 02200

SITE PREPARATION

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

This section covers the requirements for clearing the construction site, and installing silt fence and hoarding.

1.2 DEFINITIONS

Interfering or Objectionable Material: Trash, rubbish, and junk; vegetation and other organic matter, whether alive, dead, or decaying.

Clearing: Removal of interfering or objectionable material lying on or protruding above ground surface.

Provisional Clearing Area: Area that is not owned by the City. City is attempting to secure an easement. Clearing of this area will be done on a provisional basis.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

Shop Drawings:

.1 Shop drawings showing materials type, materials and dimensions to be used in the hoarding, chain link gate, silt fence and coir log.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

Obtain Engineer’s approval of staked clearing, cutting, and stripping limits, prior to commencing clearing and cutting.

PART 2 EXECUTION

2.1 GENERAL

Install tree protection as shown on contract drawings prior to commencing site clearing.

Install silt fence and fibre roll per Ontario Provincial Standards Drawings (OPSD) 219.131 and 219.120 respectively along the perimeter of the site as indicated on contract drawings and as specified.

Install hoarding around west edge of the site per contract drawings and specifications, once contractor shop drawings are approved.

Clear and cut all the site area within limits as indicated or specified.

Do not injure or deface vegetation that is not designated for removal.

Do not damage existing infrastructure including fences, boreholes, and test pits as shown in contract drawings.

2.2 LIMITS

As indicated in contract drawings and specifications.

Remove all cut and cleared materials, and any rubbish, trash, and junk generated during the Works from entire area within Project limits.

No clearing or cutting within 30 meters of the shore of Lake Ontario.

2.3 HOARDING

Install Hoarding according to Section 06100, HOARDING – ROUGH CARPENTRY

Paint the entire hoarding’s wood materials according to Section 09900, PAINTING.

2.4 CHAIN LINK GATE

Install 9 meter wide chain link gate according to Ontario Provincial Standards Drawings (OPSD) 972.102 per the drawings and specifications.

2.5 CLEARING AND CUTTING

Clear areas within limits shown in contract documents. Area designated as provisional is excluded from the contract unless notified otherwise in writing by the Engineer.

The Contractor shall clear all vegetation including, but not limited to, trees, shrubs, bushes, grass, etc.

It shall be the Contractors sole responsibility to review and understand the existing conditions (vegetation type, size, location, access, etc.) to be cleared within the contract limits.

Fell trees so that they fall away from facilities and vegetation not designated for removal.

Cut stumps flush with ground surface. Stump grinder shall be used as required.

Cut off shrubs, brush, weeds, and grass to within 20 mm of ground surface.

Do not use heavy machinery and excessive traffic that may compromise soil texture and increase soil erosion potential.

Disruption of topsoil below a depth of 150 mm is not permitted.

Soil may not be relocated within or piled onsite.

2.6 PROVISONAL CLEARING AREA

The contract drawings show a Provisional Clearing Area. Because of the schedule associated with securing the easement, it is not known at the time of tender if the Provisional Clearing Area will be cleared within this contract.

Using the Provisional Clearing Area for locating temporary facilities, parking and debris collection is prohibited.

2.7 DISPOSAL

Dispose of debris offsite.

Burning of debris onsite is not permitted.

Woody debris may be removed as timber or chipped. Chips may be sold to Contractor’s benefit. All wood debris must be removed from site.

Limit offsite disposal of clearing and cutting debris to locations that are approved by federal, provincial, and local authorities, and that will not be visible from Project.
