9:00 and 10:30 services

Our Chancel Choir, along with an orchestra comprised of local professionals and FPLC members, will

present this amazingly beautiful piece of music in worship. Featured soloists are Ian Joyal and Rachel

Stuen.

Traditionally the Roman Catholic Mass for the dead, the Requiem genre has become popular in all

Christian traditions for its texts of prayer, supplication, and enduring hope. Gabriel Fauré, working in

Paris, was a highly acclaimed organist and a composer of piano music and small-scale instrumental

pieces. He completed his Requiem in 1893, shortly after the death of both of his parents. He said, “I see

death…as a joyful deliverance, an aspiration toward a happiness beyond the grave, rather than as a

painful experience”.

This message comes across in the music, and its beauty and transcendence have helped to make it a

mainstay of choral literature. Join us for this powerful music presentation.

Holy Communion Schedule

Because of the Requiem performance on June 2, Holy Communion will be celebrated on June 9 and 16,

at both the 9:00 and 10:30 worship services.

Summer Worship

Worship continues through the summer at 9:00 and 10:30. Summer Sunday school will be held

at both the 9:00 and 10:30 services. It is for current preschoolers and those who are currently

Living Healthy Is A Prayer

BAKE, DELIVER & VISIT "In April and May, FPLC confirmands have been finishing their required service opportunities for the year and jumped at an amazing opportunity we offered to make some special connections with our senior members. Through "Bake, Deliver & Visit", 7th and 8th graders called senior members, baked them a treat and went to visit with them at their place of residence. Many of the pairs talked about being a member at FPLC and what interests they have in common. As part of the requirement, confirmands were to send a photo of themselves with their new friend; it was truly touching to see these photos with both our newest and oldest church members smiling ear to ear. This opportunity brought many confirmands outside their comfort zones, but all of them have expressed their appreciation for doing so and mentioned the pleasant surprises that doing this wonderful service for others brought into their lives." - Morgan Oldenburg, FPLC Confirmation Ministry "Hi, my name is Michael Muth and I recently had the joy of participating in Fox Point's "Bake, Deliver, and Visit" through Confirmation. I got to visit with Marion Pohlman at East Castle a couple weeks ago where I brought her cookies I made, but the real reason was to visit with her. We talked about her old job as a German teacher at Whitefish Bay and about some vacations and places we have visited. We had a lot of fun and my mom and I even offered to take her to church sometimes and we did that next Sunday. She enjoyed seeing the service and old friends and I enjoyed getting to meet a new person. It was so much fun taking part in such a unique opportunity that I recommend anyone to try and do this. It is super easy and you learn something new as well as meet someone new." - Michael Muth, 8th grade, Whitefish Bay Middle School "For my last outreach service opportunity, I went to visit an elderly church member at New Castle. I met Edna Allen and she stole my heart! Edna was very funny and sweet and she loved to laugh. I made my new friend blueberry muffins and she loved them. Edna expressed her feelings by saying how depressed she was about only being able to sit in her bed and wheelchair. By seeing Edna, I realized how lucky I am to have a healthy body that works and I am able to move and play sports. Through this outreach service program, I made a new friendship in the church and I look forward to visiting Edna again sometime soon." - Grace Karegeannes :), 8th grade, Lake Shore Middle School "Our confirmation students recently delivered baked goods to some of our senior members. They not only fed their stomachs but also their souls. Nadene Kramer, who lost her husband, David, recently was deeply touched by this gesture. She called me to say what a nice young man Dylan was. Many of our senior members are in nursing homes and have very few visitors. The connections these young men and women made with them were very special. Many others live alone and often feel isolated from society. This display of compassion, for them, was priceless. We often think that a smile or small gesture of kindness may be insignificant but they are not. We never know what kind of impact we have on one another. God delights in our efforts to make others feel loved and appreciated. I pray these relationships will continue to grow so both our youth and seniors are blessed in countless ways.

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

Mother Teresa

The Golf Classic Is NOT Just A Swingin’ Good Time! June 22, 2013

FPLC Charity Golf Classic is more than fr iends having fun. The key word is CHARITY. The purpose is to serve by adding to the funds used in all our missions and ministries. ALL net proceeds go to important places: Serenity Inn

All Peoples and Cross churches who provide broad community programming

Kujichagulia Center/Seedfolks

Shoreline Interfaith, a neighborhood outreach program for the elderly

The Gathering provides thousands of meals for Milwaukee’s homeless

Four food pantries

Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity

Support of preschools in Tanzania So find your niche and join us on this day of friendship, competition, and giving:

Be a sponsor – you can give a cash donation to promote a specialty hole or as a general contribution toward the event. Whatever you can do will be a blessing. Either of these will mean that our net profit

will be that much higher.

Be a volunteer – you’ll have a great time spending the day on the course without the frustration of trying to hit that little white ball.

Congratulate the winners or commiserate with the un-winners at a fabulous cocktail and appetizer

social at the 19th hole for a mere $20 a person.

Participate in the enhanced raffle, which includes three new major pr ize packages (two overnight stay packages and a luxury box at Miller Park to watch the Brewers beat the Reds) that you don’t want to pass up. As only a limited amount of tickets will be sold for these three packages, look for the raffle table after upcoming church services.

And, of course – BE A PLAYER! Grab some guys / call the girls! Enter your own foursome (men, women, mixed) or simply apply to be a part of the day and we’ll match you up with 3 others.

“But just as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in your complete earnestness, and love for [one another] – see that you also excel in the grace of giving” 2 Corinthians 8:7 Pick up a brochure in the Welcome Area, get your questions answered and request an eBROCHURE be sent to you by sending an email to [email protected], or call Allen Cooper at 262-960-4077.

Dinner Fellowship Signup

If you were moved to volunteer after seeing and hearing from our outreach partners on Outreach Sunday, consider taking dinner to Serenity Inn. Three times a month our members prepare a meal at home, take it warm to the Inn, and have dinner and fellowship with the residents. The conversation over dinner is edifying, especially for our young people.

Our assigned dates are the second Thursday, the third Friday, and the fourth Wednesday of each month. Thursdays: Aug. 8, Sept. 12, Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Fridays: June 21, July 19, Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 15, Dec. 20, Wednesdays: July 24, Sept. 25, Oct. 23, Nov. 27, Dec. 25.

Because there is now a full house, 12 residents, the Inn is at capacity! We on the SI Board have been waiting for this day, but it is a lot for one family to take on. You may want to consider signing up with another family to lighten the shopping/cooking load.

See the signup at the Outreach Kiosk, contact Lorraine Buehler at 414-964-8933 [email protected], or go to our website http://foxpointchurch.org, click on the link http://volunteerwiz.com/calendar/foxpointlutheran.

Children’s/Youth Ministry

A teacher affects eternity: he can never tell

where his influence stops. Henry Adams

Thank you to all the parents and volunteers who taught Sunday school this year. There is no greater gift we can give our children than a healthy faith. It has been said that nine-tenths of education is encouragement, and our teachers this year did just that. They encouraged our kids to come to church and Sunday school; they encouraged them to ask questions; they encouraged them not to worry when they didn’t know an answer; and most important, they encouraged them to want to learn more about God and Jesus. Thank you for taking the time to encourage! I hope to see you all next year!

FPLC Bible Olympics

Congratulations to this year’s winners of the 2013

Fox Point Bible Olympics:

9:00 5th and 6th grades

10:30 6th grade

After 4 rounds, it was close! (10:30 4th and 5th

graders came so very, very close!) You all did a

fantastic job!

Can You Help Us?

The sign-up board for Sunday school teaching for the

2013-2014 year is now downstairs.

If you have a child who will be entering K5-6th

grade, we ask that you sign up for one 4-week

rotation of Sunday school.

We need you! And all you need is enthusiasm—no

Bible knowledge necessary! One of the great things

about Sunday school is that you can learn with your

child. And the kids are so proud when their parents

join them in their faith journey.

If you have any questions, please contact Julie

Schlifske at [email protected].

And remember, you don’t need to be a parent to

teach. We encourage anyone who would like to help

our children grow in their faith to join us.

High School Seniors June 2, 7:00pm

Please mark your calendars for the Senior Recognition and Sending Service. Letters are being mailed mid-May. If you do not receive one, please contact Morgan at [email protected]. Please respond by Sunday, May 26.

Post High School Degrees

In addition to recognizing our high school seniors, we would also like to print a list of members who are receiving post high school degrees: Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D’s, Technical School, etc.

We need to gather information by having you respond to this article. Please list:

The person’s name Degree and the school from which the student is

graduating Where person will be living

Forms for giving us this information are available in the Welcome Area. Please fill out a form and mail the information requested to the office or email it to Linda Cole at [email protected] no later than Sunday, May 26.

Italy, CPK & Small Groups!

Rome! Florence! Venice!

Our Chancel Choir is traveling to Italy in 2014 for a choral festival. We'll join forces with other choirs from around the country for a joint concert, sing at a mass at St. Peter's Basilica, and see the sights of Rome, Vatican City, Tuscany, Florence, and Venice. We depart the U.S. on June 14, and return home June 23. Dr. Eric Stark of Butler University is our conductor for these special performances, and he is a rising star in the choral conducting world. An opportunity to work with him is not to be missed! KI Concerts sponsors such concerts and festivals all over the world, and they have arranged this program with groups such as ours in mind. We'll be singing Vivaldi's Gloria, a well-known cantata which we performed in 2011, with other church and school choirs. If we have enough voices in the proper distribution of parts, we'll even be able to sing a set of our pieces on the program. Singers and non-singers are invited to join us for this incredible experience. Joanne Ginster is our trip coordinator. She can be reached at 414-540-0953. Brochures that outline the details of the trip are available at the Welcome kiosk and at the church office. Come sing with us! Don't wish to sing, but would love to see the sights? Join us!

Summer ‘Lite’ Small Groups

give you a chance to meet new congregational

members and to keep your current connections active

during the summer. We have a wide variety of

groups that will meet periodically in June, July and

August. Please sign up for all events you are

interested in. The group leader will follow up with

you to coordinate mutually agreeable dates and to

give you the final details.

Group 1: Jazz in the Park —the Third Thursday of every month 5 pm – 9 pm. Please

sign up for dates you plan to come so we can

save the correct amount of space at the site.

Group 2: Adult tennis groups—singles and

doubles. State your preference of day/

evening, and singles/doubles and we will put

together some fun groups of round robin social

tennis.

Group 3: Pedal bike groups. Cycling

enthusiasts, come bring your bike and helmet and

join us for a group bike ride.

Group 4: Golf groups on Sunday afternoons.

Sign up and we will put together foursomes with

mutually agreed upon dates several times during

the summer at various public golf courses around

the area.

Group 5: Book group. We will meet once a

month during the summer to discuss a mutually

agreed upon book.

Group 6: Gardening group. We will meet

once a month during the summer for a gardening

event, perhaps a garden tour or a speaker.

Group 7: Young family outings. We will meet

once a month during the summer for an outing

with the kids, perhaps a picnic, or a hike.

Group 8: Summer Eye Opener’s Bible Study,

Tuesdays at 6:30am. This group will read and

discuss the Book of Romans starting the month

of May and throughout the summer.

online on the FPLC website (foxpointchurch.org)

and at church through Sunday, May 26. See the
