Since Holmatro® is the only company in the world to offer UL Listed rescue tools, the most frequently asked question we receive is:
What’s the difference between UL Listed rescue tools and rescue tools that UL tests to the NFPA 1936 standard?
The simple answer is that our UL Listed rescue tools are subjected to all of the NFPA 1936 requirements, plus additional testing not required by NFPA 1936 .
When testing a manufacturer’s product to a third party stan-dard, like NFPA 1936, if the product is found to be compliant the product is not “UL Listed,” it is “UL Classified” and may be labeled with a mark similar to the one below:
UL Listed Rescue Tools (SYAA) are investigated in accor-dance with the requirements of Underwriters Laboratories’ “Subject 1964, Outline of Investigation for Rescue Equip-ment .” These tools carry a UL Listed mark similar to the one below:
It is safe to say that obtaining a UL listing for a rescue tool is more difficult than meeting the minimum standards set by NFPA 1936 . To date, Holmatro, Inc . is the only company in the world able to offer UL Listed rescue tools .
Why are Holmatro’s UL Listed tools not shown in the list of NFPA Compliant tools?
UL does not list a given tool twice . In the general information page for UL Listed rescue tools it clearly states that: “The basic requirements used to investigate products in this category are contained in UL Subject 1964, “Outline of Investigation for Rescue Equipment .” UL Subject 1964 includes the requirements contained in ANSI/NFPA 1936 . “
As a result, Holmatro’s UL Listed Rescue Tools had to be proven to be NFPA 1936 Compliant before they could become UL Listed .
The following table provides a quick comparison of some of the differences between UL Subject 1964 (required to achieve a UL Listing) and NFPA 1936 . For more examples and information, visit our website at www.holmatro-usa.com

Holmatro® strongly believes in the power of innovation . Throughout the years we have been at the forefront of technological devel-opments in the field of hydraulic rescue equipment . Continuous market research and in-house research & development have led to many revolutionary innovations . These new Holmatro® products and technologies have helped rescuers all over the world do their demanding jobs in a quicker, safer and easier way .
Some of Holmatro’s past innovations:
6
For the past 30 years, Holmatro® Rescue Equipment has been at the forefront of many product technology improvements . After decades of innovative firsts, Holmatro® now introduces a revolutionary new technology that is sure to be one of the most important innovations in the field of extrication, ever:
What is CORE® Technology?CORE® Technology is a hydraulic system that employs COaxial Rescue Equipment hose, couplers, pumps and tools . At the core of this system is our revolutionary fluid path technology . This coaxial hose design consists of a high pressure core, surrounded and protected by the low pressure return .
What makes our coaxial hydraulic hose possible is our patented CORE® Technology coupler . These couplers have a built-in, automatic return valve that eliminates the need for a dump valve on the pump, simply connect the hose and you’re ready to go .
Why CORE® Technology?CORE® Technology is a revolutionary turning point in rescue tool technology . More than just a new tool, hose or power unit, CORE® Technology is a new hydraulic system that fundamentally changes the extrication process . When lives are at stake, it's all about speed and safety .
CORE® Technology is significantly faster, easier and safer, allowing rescuers to focus on the rescue operation, not the rescue equipment . Once you work with CORE® Technology and discover the unprecedented benefits, you won't want to go back to a twin line system .
• Hot-Swappable Change tools without returning to the power unit .
• ConnectandGo There is no need to unroll a CORE® Technology hose before
making your connections . No more twisted or kinked hoses .
• ErrorProofConnections Male & female connectors cannot be connected incorrectly
or in the wrong order . Female couplers always connect to the tool and male couplers always connect to the power unit . CORE® Technology hoses also include icons and arrows for quick and easy identification .
• ContinuousSwivels 360° swivels on both ends of the hose
prevent twisting or kinking .
• PackingUp Rolling up a CORE® Technology hose is simple . With a
couple of overhand or underhand flicks of the wrist, the hose is coiled and ready for storage .
• Reduced Weight & Space Compared to a twin line
hose of equal length, CORE® Technology hose weighs approx . 40% less and the flexible design allows it to be coiled into a much tighter roll, making it easier to manage and store . Without pigtails, CORE® Technology tools take up less compartment space and weigh less .
• ProtectedPower With CORE® Technology hoses, the high pressure line is completely protected by the low pressure return line . The maximum a rescuer could be exposed to is 363 psi (25 bar) .
• Para-AramidYarnReinforced A CORE® Technology hose does not use any steel wire for reinforcement, making it highly flexible and kink resistant .
Both inner and outer hoses have a 4:1 safety ratio .
• FewerHosesinTheActionCircle A single smooth hose, compared to twin line hoses with Oetiker clamps, reduces trip hazards and snag points .
Hot-swappable power allows multiple tool operation from one hose, and prevents unnecessary travel to and from the power unit .

The Holmatro® 4000 Series holds a number of benefits that elevate Holmatro® rescue tools to the next level in terms of user-friendliness, performance and working speed . Of course, CORE® Technology is a standard feature on the 4000 Series, with traditional twin line hoses also available .
In addition, Holmatro® introduces three new features:
Standard on all Holmatro® 4000 Series cutters, combi-tools, and spreaders, these bright LED’s prevent you from ever working in your own shadow again . Whether at night, or during the daytime when bright sunshine can cause dark shaded areas, the integrated LED’s provide illumination where it’s needed most . Even when scene lighting is absent, these bright lights enable you to work for about 12 continuous hours on a single AA battery .
Standard on all 4000 Series cutters and combi-tools, the integrated i-Bolt construction is characterized by its sleek, low profile design that allows the bolt to be recessed into the blade holders .
• The low profile i-Bolt design provides better access innarrow spaces .
• Thisinnovative, designisalsomoreefficientanduseslesstorque . Instead of compressing the blades between the softer aluminum blade holders and steel shims, the i-Bolt squeezes directly on the blades, resulting in less blade separation and a more efficient cutting process .
• Thei-Boltandbladeholdersareprotected by a stainless steel cover, helping to protect them during the extrication process .
• Comparedtoconventionalnuts and bolts, the i-Bolt provides improved performance with reduced size and weight .
Standard on all Holmatro® 4000 Series spreaders and rams, the innovative “speed valve” allows spreaders to open up to 65% faster and rams open up to 35% faster . This speed valve automatically increases the opening speed of the tool, allowing for faster and more efficient tool placement, thus shortening the extrication process .
Built into the tool, not the power unit, this technology will work with your existing Holmatro® power unit, and does not affect the speed or operation of other tools running on the same power unit .
When the tool meets resistance and pressure builds to 2,178 psi (150 bar), the valve automatically switches the tool back to ‘normal’ speed .
Of course with the precision control of Holmatro’s proportional control valve, the rescuer always has the ability to feather the control handle for slow, smooth, controlled movements whenever necessary .

PowerShore™ is a patented and versatile shoring system consisting of many lightweight components that can be coupled quickly . A broad range of accessories and many cylinder and extension pipe lengths allows for quick and easy shoring of vehicles, trenches and buildings . Cylinders are available with integrated pneumatic and mechanical struts, or powerful hydraulic cylinders with tremendous lifting capacity . All struts have female socks on both ends for quick attachment of our snap-on system saddles and extensions .
Struts with Pneumatic CylinderStruts with an integrated pneumatic cylinder have a maximum working pressure of only 116 psi, making them suitable for use with bottled air or compressors . The pneumatic operation offers rapid placement as well as limited lifting capacity .
Struts with Hydraulic CylinderStruts with an integrated hydraulic cylinder are activated using an external, single acting hand pump for precise control . With a maximum working pressure of 10,500 psi (720 bar) these struts have incredible lifting capacity of up to 22,400 lbf (99 .8 kN) . Retracting the cylinder is assisted by a spring return when hydraulic pressure is released, using a needle valve on the pump .
Pneumatic and Hydraulic Struts come in two versions:
“Q” Quick lock versions incorporate a plunger with an automatic locking mechanism in 9 mm steps (3/8”) . The integrated spacer, a spring operated flex mechanism, has a 13 mm stroke . This space is compressed to overcome one step of the quick lock system, pretensioning the strut to a maximum of 900 lbf (4 kN) . Releasing the locking mechanism is required before retracting the plunger .
“L” Lock Nut versions have a threaded plunger and lock nut . When the plunger is extended the lock nut may be manually secured at virtually any length . This provides positive locking at virtually any length and the cylinder pressure may be released without destabilizing the strut . Axial displacementper rotation of the lock nut is 16 .5 mm .

PowerShore™ Stabilization Systems
Mechanical StrutsWith no air or hydraulics required, mechanical struts offer quick, adjustable placement and stabilization . Female receptors on both ends allow mechanical struts to be used with extensions and snap-on saddles .
ThreadThe strut is extended and retracted via integral threads, making it self-retaining . Axial displacement per strut rotation is 16 .5 mm (5/8”) .
Lock NutThe plunger is manually extended and the lock nut is used to secure the strut in place . Axial displacement per lock nut rotation is 16 .5 mm (5/8”) .
Extension PipesExcept for the FX 1, all extensions are equipped with a male snap-lock on one end and a female on the other . The FX 1 is a double female that is used for connecting saddles to the male end of an extension pipe . This is useful for making a fixed strut using only extension pipes and saddles .
