I think this conclusion of what this website thinks I belong too is slightly wrong. I think this because I am only 17 and can’t go into bars and clubs yet meaning that the description that they have gave me is wrong. Although this part is wrong I do think that I belong in a town as I did list a lot of things I like e.g. certain shop brands and certain fast foods. Also I do like going out with my friends which is also what they describe as being a townie.

Reflection of the Front Cover Analysis

From my research on music magazine front covers, I have learnt that a plain background is used most on today’s magazines to make the images and text stand out and to keep it very simple. I will use a plain background on my magazine front cover as I want it to draw attention to the text and images more than the background. A big bold heading top right, left or centre is also used in popular magazine to attract the audience. This is a good thing to have in my magazine as I want lots of people to read my magazine so I would need to attract them and show them what the magazine is called or what the main topic is. I have found out that sell lines are important on a front cover of a magazine as they tell the audience what content is in the magazine so that the audience become interested and therefore want to buy the product. Sell lines are located mostly on the right and left sides of the page so readers read down the page reading all of the information. On one magazine some sell lines were at the top. The reason for this is that most people read from the top of the page going down so by revealing the content of the magazine at the top, audience would be attracted to the content first before even reading the rest of the text. Images are also very important when looking at a magazine cover as they attract attention to the audience straight away. I have noticed that most magazine cover have big images centre of the page and taking up most of the front cover. Most front covers have an image of a celebrity looking at the camera in medium long shot or in medium shot. This is to engage the audience and to make them look at the image and be interested in it. Also from my research I have learnt that some magazines use a colour theme to make the cover look a bit different from the rest. The Vibe magazine I looked at in my research uses the colours black, white and red on their front cover which looks really good and works well together. The red is used to highlight important parts in the text which I have notice that it is used in other magazine too. The NME magazine I also looked at in my research uses black and yellow as their colour scheme. The yellow is used as in the image there is a yellow object so they are matching the image with some text and using the same colour to give it a theme which also looks good and works well. I will try and add a colour scheme in my magazine as I think it will appeal to the audience more and make my magazine look unique. I have also noticed that the images or text overlap other features in the magazine showing a sense of 3D or depth which is something I will try and do. Most magazines have their images overlap the main mask heading. Barcodes on magazines mostly go at the bottom right or left of the front cover so it is easy to locate when scanning it through the till and also it is out of the way so it doesn’t draw attention. This is where I will have my barcode on my magazine as it will be out of the way so there is no attention drawn to it.

Reflection of the Contents Page Analysis

From my research on music magazine contents pages, I have learnt that most magazine have lots of small images around the page so that it gets the readers interested in the contents. The images usually have a page number in the corner of the image so that the readers can go directly to the page that has that image on. I think this is a good idea and I wouldn’t mind using this in my magazine as I think it’s a great way of getting readers connected to my magazine and interested in my contents. Some magazines have one large image on the contents page which takes up most of the page. I don’t think I will use this idea as I don’t want more attention on one image than the actual contents of my magazine. I would prefer to have a few images on the page so that the readers have a clear visual insight to what is in the magazine rather than one image which may not explain a lot about what is in the magazine. I have noticed that most magazine contents pages have the contents sectioned off to the right of the page or the left and don’t take up much space at all. The contents are then listed down the page with the page numbers to the left of the text in a different colour. I think this is a good clear way of showing the readers what contents is in the magazine. I think making a clear section for my contents to go is a good idea as even though it doesn’t take up most of the page it is clear where it is and the coloured page numbers which are mostly bold to the left of the text makes it stand out to the readers so that they know what page to find the text they have just read. I have also found out that with most magazines there is text that is in bold or in a different font, in the contents section, which highlights to the reader the main topic on the page they are talking about. Underneath this “mini sub heading” there is the normal text which explains what the content is on that particular page. I think this is a good idea as it gives the reader more information to what they are about to read. I will be using this in my magazine as I think it is a clear way to tell the audience about the content of my magazine. Most magazine I looked at have a plain background on the contents page. I will also have a plain background on my contents page as I want the attention on the content of my magazine and not on the background. The main heading on the contents page varied in sizes and font in magazines that I research although most of them were located at the top. I will have my main heading at the top too as I think that it will draw attention to the readers and tell them that this is the page to find the contents and page numbers. Some magazine had there name of the magazine in the corner of the page. I do not know if I will do this for my contents page as I think it could be a bit of a waste of space as there is no real purpose for it. Some magazines I researched had a section at the bottom of the page irrelevant to showing the contents of the magazine but it was away to fit a small bit of important information on there. NRT magazine had a section to inform the readers that they can get in touch with the magazine company by Facebook or other social networking sites. I would also like to do this at the bottom of my contents page as I think it is a great place to present that information there isn’t really a suitable place to put that information anywhere else.

Reflection of the Double Page Spread Analysis

From my research on music magazine double page spread, I have learnt that most magazine have a very large image filling up most of the page on the first page or on the second page. I will also like to do this as I think it will get the readers attracted to that page when flicking through the magazine. The image is usually of person or a band looking at the camera posing. This may be something that I will think about adding in my page. Double Page Spreads (DPS) in magazines that I have researched are all different. They have different headings in different places but I will probably have my main heading at the top of the page so it attracts the readers straight away. The heading will be bold like most headings I have research and will have an unusual font to make the pages look interesting. Some headings go over onto the next page to give it more room and so that the heading can be seen clearly. I think my heading could do that too so that I do not take up one page and will be able to spread it over two. The main text is mostly put in to columns which I think is a good idea to copy this as it makes the text look organised and clear to read. Another feature that I have noticed a magazine does is to make the first word of the main text big and bold to get the attention of the reader so that they start reading it. I think this is something I will do to my magazine as I do what to attract the reader to my main text even if it does look long and boring I will try and get their attention way making the first word exciting so that they think that the article is exciting. Also some magazines highlight some important parts in their text by using a different colour. I would like to use this in my magazine as I think that by highlighting some interesting parts in the text it will get the readers drawn into it. One magazine used sub headings to split up their text so it didn’t look like a boring long piece of text to the audience. I will also had sub heading telling the readers certain topics so that they can easily navigate around the page and can easily reader the text but also WANT to read the text. Making the sub headings bold would make this much clearer. The magazines I researched all have a fairly plain background which is something that I will use when creating my magazine so that I don’t draw attention to it and more to the text and images. I have also noticed that above the main text magazines have a short piece of text summing up the main text.
