Questions

Page 14: Research and evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products? There are some similarities in both magazines the big header to attract customers the image being the main attraction along with the writing on the the edges of the magazine article.

There are however differences on the magazine front cover with the magazine front cover having more diversity in color and style of text. There is also more text on the front cover labeling what is in the magazine and who is referenced in it for example the George Lucas and Weezy being mentioned. In my magazine there is more a color coordination with the main colors being black and grey.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Social groups are what people based themselves around in schools for example a person is more likely to get along with people similar to him like sports or gaming. When making my magazine I wanted to attract as many people as possible to my article. For example people who are interested in gaming and music would most likely not read the same magazine but I wanted them to be able to read my article. I tried to make it obvious in the pictures I used what type of people I was aiming for teens still at school listening to music and I incorporated this by using images in my music magazine to show to my readers what type of magazine they are about to read. Also in addition to the images I wrote out on my front cover ‘different ways of downloading and listening to music. There are different types of teenagers and I tried to make my magazine appeal to all types. Teens with different music tastes, different interests and unalike hobbies.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think music institutions that would like most likely sell my magazine would be the Virgin Music industry they rely on their brand name to get people to buy their products so by selling my informative magazine on the music industry would be ideal for them. Also in addition to Virgin Music I believe that a smart and readable newspaper would buy my magazine and put it within their newspaper an music institution such as The Guardian would buy my magazine as this way they can get more sales by incorporating new things into their newspaper. Also institutions such as Twitter or Facebook might also want to buy my magazine as it will appeal to a number of people who are their customers and they are benefiting from my magazine as they are bringing new items into their business.

What would be the audience for your media product?

I used different techniques and media forms and conventions to attract my audience. My target audience were teens and in order to attract them to my magazine I made the questionnaire I gave out specific to the magazine industry and specifically what they would like to see in my magazine. I made sure that my image, chose of font and style of text was all what the audience feedback suited and that it would fit what they asked. The feedback I got from my questionnaire was all very positive and it made me realise what people would like to see most in my media product. An image and different/unique style of text were the most popular choices and I used the questionnaire feedback to correct my media magazine this is also how I would attract readers to my magazine

This is a good example as this magazine has different styles of text along with a big image being the Centre of the magazine. The masthead is big bold and makes the page stand out showing this is what you need to focus on.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

From making my magazine I saw that there are different ways of making someone look completely different to what they actually look like. The uses of Photoshop in the media seem to be a lot more than originally thought. When making my magazine I wanted to make it appealing to a range of teenagers with different personalities and interests. Photoshop was the main form of computer software I used and it showed me that you can do multiple things to a picture which are very effective yet unnoticeable. I also used different types of Microsoft Word to present my data for example to represent my double page spread I wrote it out on Microsoft Word. Along with Microsoft Word I used Microsoft PowerPoint to represent my Research and Evaluation which also is another technological product.

Page 19: Research and evaluation

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression of your

product?

In the progression of my product I have felt that I have learnt new ways of making a product along with new ways to make people look completely different to what they actually do. This is the work of Photoshop and other technological resources at peoples disposal, when doing our research I looked at what extremes people would go to in order to look what they think is perfect. When making my own magazine front cover I tried to keep it real and not change an excessive amount. I edited the background and toned up the image. While other people changed everything within the picture and made it look nothing like the real image I kept it as natural as possible.
