RESEARCH EVALUATION

By Rose Goddard

Page 2: Research evaluation

Undoubtedly by carrying out research, I am now aware of the generic codes & conventions

that attract consumers into wanting to purchase a music magazine.

By using an array of bold fonts & bright colours a magazine will be more appealing to

consumers, these features are almost essential in determining the survival of my music

magazine. I will incorporate things I have discovered through research for example

mis-en-scene will play a significant role in conveying the Hip Hop & RnB music industry. I

will use my props list as guidance when photographing my central image so that my

consumers will be immediately aware of my music magazine genre. I will use costume to add

to the continuity of black, white and red colour scheme. This will be effective as I would

associate sophisticated classic colours with the RnB genre as opposed to using bright

coloured costumes associated with Pop music. By analysing professional and amateur music

magazines, I now know that the most effective RnB music magazines have simplistic colour

schemes, captivating central images, a colloquial tone as well as having concise small

amounts of content, I will take all of this into consideration when creating my music

magazine front cover.

REFLECTION ON CONTENTS PAGE

By carrying out research I have concluded that the most effective Contents pages feature a large feature image as

well as a table of contents. Information is minimalistic as the contents page has to be concise. My music magazine

will be aimed at teenagers and young adults therefor they will not want to be bombarded with too much information

on the contents page. The most effective contents pages I found included an editors note this is very effective as it

give contents pages a personal tone. I think I will include an editors note as this will make consumers want to

purchase my music magazine as a mutual bond will be established between producer and consumer, therefore

being very relatable. I will ensure the image is of high quality as several amateur music magazine contents pages

use a mediocre contents page that isn't particularly too appealing towards consumers. I will ensure the colour

scheme is continuous throughout my music magazine. I will have to ensure that the feature image does not

overshadow the table of contents as information is just as important as the image itself. Having a large feature

image will highlight the artists significance and therefore I would want this to be displayed. I shall take into

consideration all that I have learnt through researching information about professional contents pages and non

professional.

REFLECTION ON DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

My double page spread analysis has allowed me to consider various features

included in a double page spread, beholding the most content in a Music

magazine. I will take this into consideration as it is on the double page spread

where the consumers want to be the most intrigued. I will consider the layout I

plan to use for my double page spread as I don’t want it to be too cluttered

however I still would like it to have a fair amount of content about the artist. An

interview is usually used throughout a double page spread where the

consumers are informed about the artists personal thoughts. I will consider all

of the things I have learnt through researching a double page spread.

By carrying out research I am aware of the mass markets interests all of

which are beneficial in creating a successful music magazine of the chosen

Genre Hip Hop & Rnb. My music magazine will be solely influenced by the

responses from my audience. The audiences thoughts and feelings are very

important as this too will determine the survival of my music magazine.
