Britney SpearsBritney was the biggest of the teen pop stars

to emerge in the late 1990s. However, by themiddle of the following decade it seemed her

musical career may have drowned in a mass of

bad publicity and personal difficulties. Britney

Spears then put together one of the most

phenomenal comebacks in pop music history

and is more commercially and critically

successful than ever before. In the past decade

she has released 16 top 40 pop singles, five #1

albums and is, at the age of 27, a pop icon.

    "...Baby One More Time"

    "Toxic""Womanizer"

    "Oops!...I Did It Again"

    "Piece of Me"

She landed a contract with Jive Records. In

December 1998, Spears released her firstsingle, "...Baby One More Time." The catchy

pop tune reached the top of the pop charts at

the end of January 1999, propelled in part by

    its music video

MadonnaMadonna has released 37 top 10 pop hits in the US, more than

any other artist. She also ranks as the top dance artist of alltime. Seven of her albums have debuted at #1 in the US. She is

a member of the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

    "Like a Prayer"

    "Vogue"

    "Music"

    "Like a Virgin"

    "Ray of Light"

In 1981, Madonna decided to go solo and hired manager

Camille Barbone ofGotham Records to help her get her

singing career on track. Camille showed Madonna how to

navigate the male-dominated world of the music business,

and helped put together a studio band that accentuated the

budding star's hip style. Stephen Bray, a musician in her

band, wrote her first hit, "Everybody", and Madonna used

her brash business style to get the recordings to New York

music producer Mark Kamins. Kamins then helped Madonnascore a record deal with Sire Records. "Everybody" hit

number one on the dance charts in 1982.

Her next single "Crazy for You", which she performed for the

1985 film Vision Quest, also became an instant No. 1 hit. She

then started her first music tour, The Virgin Tourand watched

17 consecutive songs climb into the Top 10 on the BillboardChart.

    Locations

Establishing shots have been used frequently throughout

pop music videos to establish the location/setting of the

video. Most of these shots include a large group of

people (dancers). They allow you to be aware of where

the music video was filmed so you get the feel of the

    setting.Using establishing

    shots can be hard

    as you have to take

    out all unnecessary

    objects that would

    be there otherwisethat you wouldnt

    want there. Mise

    En Scene would be

    highly important

    when using this

    type of shot.

Beaches, fields, empty car park, flat open areas (large

    areas would be more effective)

    Weather

    conditions

    would have to

    suit the theme

    of the song,most

    establishing

    shots are in

    bright sunshine

    or pouring

    down rain so

    that you see all

    aspects of that

    weather

    Extreme Close-ups

    9/9

    Extreme close-up

    shots

Need to include: good hair and make-

up, lighting to compliment their face,

    macro lens (good camera), good

    composition.

Eye contact with the camera, up close and

personal, creating a relationship with the camera

    (with the audience).

    Lip synching has to

    be perfection, we

    can see this more

    noticeable than any

    other shot,

    performance and

    editing have to be

    professional so the

    shots look decent

    and doesnt show

    any flaws.

    Variety of angles,

    have the model

    looking at different

    sides of the room

    to get a varied shot

    of the person. It

    adds something

    new to look at,

    having these

    extreme close-upsevery other shot

    mixes up the music

    video and makes it

    interesting.
