Why would Hawk and a Hacksaw
appeal to their audience? Firstly the title of the band appeals to a more intellectual niche audience
as it essentially originates from a Shakespeares Hamlet; I am but madnorth-north-west: when the wind is sutherly I know a hawk from ahandsaw. An audience who takes interest in literature, will be able toconnect to the band and it will act as a form of flattery as the audience areable to identify to quote.
A Hawk and a Hacksaw would instantly appeal to both male and female
audiences as the band consists of equal amounts of both sexes- onemale, one female; in which they have equal roles. The band would alsoappeal to women due to their image, Heather Trost is not portrayed inanyway voyeuristically next to Barnes.
Their image also appeals to their audience as they do not dress in anywayobscurely. Trost often wears simple or lightly patterned dresses or
jumpers, again not putting herself on display. Jeremy Barnes style isslightly more quirky; particularly with his moustache and quiff which makeshim appear as though he belongs in another time- which fits in well withthe style of music.
Also it appeals to aspiring audiences, who long to travel as similarly toBeirut throughout their productions they create a sense of freedom andpromote travel, this includes in their media texts such as songs, videos
and album art.

Connotations, imagery and style on the
a Hawk and a Hacksaw website. The homepage is pretty plain and basic with
a faded square pattern perhaps referringback to the idea of being a Blank canvasand that they create their own ideologies, orperhaps as a way of not detracting from theactual purpose of the website.
Their photo page is however slightly more visual, the motifof the band stands out in red against the rest of the page, the pixelated effect creates a sense of arty, quirky, fun.
The forest background creates a strongrelation to nature, suggesting the bandare well grounded and eco-friendly. Alsoin the very background there are severalpeople visible perhaps picnickingcreating a sense of community.
The photos of the band are central
drawing the viewers attention directly tothem.

Album Artwork; Connotations, Imagery
and Style.
.
Basic font, perhaps to not detract from the actual art.
The faded lime green againconnotes nature and due to the
faded reminds me of a vintage, authentic painting.
Looks like handwriting, as though the bandhas actually written on each copy- appealingto the audience
Use of fabrics, felt-tip pen etc it gives theappearance of the artwork being homemade.
Again relates back tonature through the
mountain forms.
Red flowers suggestshappiness

Katy Prado & The MambolerosKaty Prado and The Mamboleros havebeen together for around two years andeach member is from a different areaincluding; Chile, London, Peru andBolivia. Like the previous bands I havelooked at their sound is particularlyunique has strong similarities to TheSevered Limbs particularly in theirupbeat songs. I think what makes theirsound so unique is due to eachindividuals culturals roots and styleswhich are brought together with eachones love of 40's Rock-n-Roll, 50's
Rockabilly and also Mambo and the 60'skitsch. They call themselves a hybrid ofLatin and Rockabilly, which relates toThe Severed Limbs sound.

How would Katy Prado & the
Mamboleros appeal to audiences?
The use of various genres means that Katy Prado andthe Mamboleros appeal to audiences with differentorigins- in particular with Latin roots. However the useof Rockabilly also means that the group can appeal toanyone.
The band may also appeal to female audiences asthey are led by a female singer. The title of the band, with the placement of Prados name before the rest ofthe male challenges gender stereotypes of women inthe industry.
Unlike the other bands I have looked at the band hasmore of an interest in fashion in which Katy Pradosports elements of retro with modern day fashion. However she does not dress in a voyeuristic style
