BRAILLE CONVERTER Braille is a code which enables blind persons to read and

write. Braille is the only reliable method of literacy for blind

persons because it enables them to read and write and can actually be substituted for print in most circumstances.

A refreshable Braille display or Braille terminal is an electro-mechanical device for displaying Braille characters, usually by means of raising dots through holes in a flat surface

A soft cell has 6 or 8 pins made of metal or nylon; pins are controlled electronically to move up and down to display characters as they appear on the display of the source system

Dots 7 and 8, if present. can be used to show the position of the cursor in the text or for European 8 dot braille. They can also be used for advanced maths work and for computer coding.

FRAMEWORK FOR OPTIMIZING GRID MIDDLEWARE ON MULTI-CORE PROCESSORS

The microprocessor industry is rapidly moving towards chip multiprocessors

This change in computer architecture requires corresponding design modifications in programming paradigms, including grid middleware tools.

Naive implementations of grid middleware on multicore systems can severely impact performance because of limitations of shared bus bandwidth, cache size and coherency, and communication between threads.

Development of an optimized multi-threaded grid middleware for emerging multi-core processors!! Run multiple grid services on a CMP node!

Consumer Level Solution of Counterfeit Medicines

With the advent of communication technology, rapid development is taking place in the field of Healthcare than ever.

Every year in the world hundreds of people become victims of this deception (Counterfeit Med)

Minimize the risk and exposure of consumers to counterfeit drugs.

To facilitate the identification of counterfeit medicine by providing user friendly and cost efficient IT-based solution to End consumers.

we propose two approaches: a) Identification of counterfeit medicines via camera mobile b) Identification of counterfeit medicines via smart

CONSUMER LEVEL SOLUTION OF COUNTERFEIT MEDICINES

It is estimated that 25-50% of the medicines market is counterfeit

WHO states that 10% of the world drug supply may be counterfeit out of which 1 % sales in developed countries to over 10% in developing countries.

2D matrix/barcode is a machine-readable representation of information

2D barcode is an effective and robust solution since error correction codes are added to increase symbol strength: even if they are partially damaged, they can still be read.

CONSUMER LEVEL SOLUTION OF COUNTERFEIT MEDICINES (OBJECTIVES)

Develop robust Data security algorithms and protocols

Develop robust and reliable detection procedure for Data Matrix 2D codes

Increase awareness of End-consumer Develop an embedded device for capturing image

which can work with MANETs or wireless mesh networking environment

User scans the encrypted Data matrix using the mobile camera.

Software for reading the encrypted Data matrix must be installed in the mobile. Development of this software is a strong research oriented module of our project and will be flexible enough to run to all types of mobiles.

The encrypted barcode is decoded at client end via randomly selecting the decoding algorithm. Information is automatically sent to Central Verification Authority (CVA) (Ministry of health) via SMS. Response from CVA is send back to customer in max five seconds.

The verified information is then displayed on user’s mobile along with the distributor‘s code. This distributor code must be unique for each distributor.

End customer uses the Smart keychain scans the data matrix.

In order to scan user presses the scan button on keychain and hold the keychain next to the laser marked data matrix.

One of the decoding algorithms stored on memory chip is randomly selected to decode the scanned barcode.

After decoding, the expiry date is checked against the current date. If the medicine has been expired the alert signal (Red) will be generated, else other checks will be performed and Green signal can be generated. Other information such as Manufacture Company etc will be displayed on the text area.

CONSUMER LEVEL SOLUTION OF COUNTERFEIT MEDICINES (OBJECTIVES)

Page 19: Research Profile Dr. Raihan Ur Rasool Assistant Professor (Professional Member: OGF, IEEE, ACM) School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science,

NEURO-INFORMATICS LAB AT NUST-SEECS we need to think ahead of time and invest into research

areas that hold the keys to future innovation and development. Studies of brain is one such field of studies

Neuroscientists all around the world are actively involved in exploring different brain regions and thus produce enormous amount of data

This project focuses on establishment of a Neuro-Informatics Lab at NUST/SEECS to collaborate with Blue Brain Project (BBP) being carried out at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL),

Existence of such a facility will enable Neuroscientists and Computer Scientists in Pakistan to conduct their experiments and analysis working on the data collected using state of the art research methodologies without investing in establishing the experimental Neuroscience facilities.

NEURO-INFORMATICS LAB AT NUST-SEECS Being a country with relatively less developed knowledge

base in life sciences and systems science, it is imperative for us to involve ourselves in this endeavour and work closely with global centres of excellence on the subject.

Pakistani researchers would greatly benefit from the establishment of neuro-informatic research facility closely linked and guided by close international cooperation.

The establishment of Collaborative Blue Brain node would enable neuroscience community in Pakistan, to benefit from experimental data, expert authorities, new findings and specialized projects / workshops from all around the world.

The Lab will be the first lab in Pakistan which will introduce informatics/computational aspect of Cognitive Sciences in Pakistan. 20

Page 21: Research Profile Dr. Raihan Ur Rasool Assistant Professor (Professional Member: OGF, IEEE, ACM) School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science,

NEURO-INFORMATICS LAB AT NUST-SEECS This Lab will also help the people from medicine and

especially neuroscience doctors to see the simulated portions of brain.

One of the biggest advantages of collaborating with prestigious Life Sciences Schools would be capacity building. This will help local students from Pakistan to go to state of the art computational and experimentation labs and bring with them the knowledge of state of the art technologies being used and current issues of the above mentioned domains.

Human resource development in this field will enable Pakistan to become one of the leading countries engaged in its development
