Researched by Noel Narveson 1 When I started this task it was to be Hans Narveson and his decedents, but as I find more information on others and am failing to get information from others the biography is taking a new turn. It only seems right that I add His Mother, Brother, and Sister who also immigrated to the United States I don’t have a lot of information about them, but the story would not seem complete without them. I don’t claim to be a writer but I will do my best, you will find mistakes in the biography some will no doubt be mine. A lot of the old documents are hand written and very hard to read. Some of them have mistakes in the data. Included will a few photos and footnotes. Locating some of this material is not an easy task. I did as much on the internet as I could. There are a few free sites out there yet but are hard to find.

Aasen9. Where he met and later married Nettie Gutterud born April 25 1878 died March 6 1948. She was born to Erick and Anna Gutterud at Kennsett Iowa

Hans Narveson farmed in West Antelope Township later Oberon Township where he was township supervisor for many years. In 1944 they moved into the city of Oberon where he served as mayor. While he was mayor the Oberon fire hall was completed.

Hans suffered from malaria and Dr. Terlechi 10came to the house several times to treat him. Hans only had one working lung for many years. A few years before he died Hans had a stroke and never fully recovered.

Hans told me 11 a few stories and one I remember is that Hans and his brother Christian Narveson road bicycle from Dogden N.D. to Fort Totten looking for work only to be robbed of what little cash they had and an old pistol. I don’t know if they got work at that time or not. I remember well when Hans was mayor of Oberon, I often went with him up to Walt Burgstahler’s12 store where the city meetings were held. I don’t remember anything about the meetings as they were not of any interest to a young boy. But I always got a few penny candies from Walt to keep me busy. Hans and Nettie are buried at the Antelope Valley Church cemetery west of Oberon. (1881 David Houston patents the roll film for cameras.)

Buskerud13 Buskerud fylke is named after the old Biskopsrud farm in Åmot in Modum (municipality) - a pearl in the central part of Norway. The name of the farm is derived from Biskop (bishop) and rud (clearing), so Buskerud means "the bishop's clearing". The area of the original farm is today the site of an agricultural college. Buskerud fylke stretches from the Oslo fjord to the Hardangervidda mountains in the northeast. The southeastern part of the county is flat, with fertile farmland, while in the northeast the mountains and valleys dominate: Eggedal, Hallingdal, Hemsedal, Numedal, Sigdal, Ustedalen, and Uvdalen are some of these valleys. In 1623 silver was discovered at Kongsberg, giving rise to Norway's largest mining industry. From 1623 to 1957 a total of 1,350,000 kilograms of ore was mined at Kongsberg! The mining operations also gave rise to industries such as the Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk (a weapons manufacturer), Norway's first institution of higher learning - Bergseminaret - and the Royal Mint. Another important mining operation was the cobalt mines in Modum. During the 1830's these mines produced great quantities of cobalt, a blue pigment widely used in the glass and porcelain industry.
