Researching different magazines genres/sub genres

Page 2: Researching Genres

This PowerPoint will show the different types of music genres which will help me find the right music that I will make. I looked into different music genres to see different takes on the way they used colour schemes and images throughout their magazine. Overtime this will help me chose what magazine to design.

R&B

Page 4: Researching Genres

When looking at different r&b magazines I found that most of them used very dark colours with bright mastheads. XXL uses very bright colours but they vary between the issues. The magazine VIBE has a masthead which stands out from the background and the main image covers the end ‘’L’’ of the masthead. The target audience of most r&b magazines are late teenagers and early adults, this is because of the language used in the magazine and the artist that are used in the magazine will only be related to the late teens as they would listen to them on the internet and the radio. POP

Page 6: Researching Genres

When looking at different types of pop magazines they use bright colours as they want the magazines to come across cheerful and happy as this will attract their target audience which is young female teenagers. The most popular colours are pink, white and black which supports the target audience of young teenage girls.

HIP HOP/RAP

Page 8: Researching Genres

When I was looking at different types of hip hop magazines they all generally use dark colours as this can be linked to the origin of Hip Hop, this can be seen in the late 1970s with Run DMC. This is why most hip hop magazines use dark colours such as black, red and grey. The main target audience for a hip hop / rap magazine is 16-21 as most of the songs content explicit words which a younger audience will be unable to listen to.

CLASSICAL

When I was looking at different types of Classical magazines they are generally aimed at the older generation as many teenagers listen to rap or pop. The colour scheme is mostly dark red, black and white which has a vintage feel to it.CLASSICAL SUMMARY

The magazine genre which I have chosen to make is Rap as I find it easier to relate to. The reason is that I have grown up with rap artist playing in the background, this gives me an advantage as I am the target audience. I will stick to the colour scheme of rap magazine of bright colours as I want to appeal to my target audience.
