Many students tried out for this gruelling event, and I must admit that it just isn’t appropriate for some people. However competitors in the ten year old event (and some of our students are only nine years old) ran a distance of two kilometres, and all other events ran three kilometres. I think it is really important to acknowledge their effort and willingness to join the school team. The day was very successful for the school as Reservoir were the overall winners and received a pennant which is now displayed in our foyer. Whether these children came first, tenth, or even twentieth, their endeavour and positive attitude is to be admired. So well done to these students! 10 year old age group: Charlie, Bridgette, Ysabella, Emma McL., Isobel B., Patrick, Yahya, Nawaf, Prakhar and Yusef. 11 year olds: Maria H., Kosma, Jasmeet, Jianing, Rizki, Charlotte, Joshua I., Jack, Sina, Farouk and Sweeney. 12 year olds: Anastasia, Abir, Selena, Besi, Cloe F., Reece, William W., Lynton and Daghash. Last Week’s Results: Football: On Friday we went to Donath Reserve to play St. Joseph The Worker in a hard and tough game of football. The first win was the toss. Joel decided to kick with the wind and we were happy. Most of St. Josephs were really skilled and fast. The first quarter was a good effort for us being a very young team and the quarter time scores were 16 and one point to us which was kicked by Joel M. We were very disappointed with the score. It was our only score for the match. The final scores were St. Joseph The Worker 10.12 (72) to .1 (1). We were happy to keep them to only 10 goals because it could have been more! At the end of the day we were outclassed and we lost. Netball A: What a windy and fantastic day we had at St. Josephs The Worker. We played a great game of Netball. First Team A tried to beat the opposition. Unfortunately our school did not win. The final scores were 0 to 24. Netball B: On Friday we tried really hard as you can imagine. Kosma shot an amazing goal. The score for our B team was 1-22. We didn’t win on the court but we won in our hearts. What great teamwork we had! Soccer: Friday was a great day for a beautiful game of

soccer. Our team kicked off and the game was under way. At the end of the first half the scores were 1-0 to St. Josephs. When the second half was underway the scores quickly changed to 1-1 by an amazing goal by Alessio. We soon took the lead with a great goal from Farouk. Unfortunately they levelled the scores and finally ran out winners. We lost 6-2. Teeball: What a great game we played against St. Josephs. We won the toss and decided to field. We had very good fielding skills. During our batting we showed great skills and everyone made home runs. The final score was St. Josephs 2 and Reservoir 31. We were lucky to share our skills with St. Josephs.

Hello from the Science Corner!

It seems like a long time since we last said hello from the Science Corner. Time just seems to go so quickly. We have already completed a term of Science and are loving it! The students are familiar with working in Collaborative Learning Teams and taking on roles as Manager, Director and Speaker. Many investigations have happened and students are developing and using the rich language of Science. This term the Year 1/2 students and the Year 5/6 students are learning about Chemical Science. How exciting, exploring the concept of CHANGE through the context of food, including things like spaghetti, popcorn and chocolate! They will be learning about how heating and cooling a food can change its properties and whether the change can be reversed or not. A very engaging unit of work. Our Prep and Year 3 / 4 students are learning about Physical Science. Our Preps students are well into a fun and engaging unit exploring movement. They will discover that; why and how things move depends on a variety of factors, including their size and shape. The Year 3 / 4 students will investigate “Heat”. Heat is important to us in many ways in our everyday lives. We use heat in practical ways such as drying our hair, cooking our dinner and warming our water. But we also know about the dangers of heat and react instinctively when we touch a hot stove or walk barefooted on hot sand. Your children may have also shared with you stories about our new enrolments! Our Spiny Leaf Stick insects have created some excitement around the school. These delicate little creatures are easy to look after and quite safe for children to handle. They are currently residing in the Prep classrooms, however they will make an appearance around the school during our upcoming Science evening. We are very excited about the new digital microscopes we have purchased for our students to use, safety goggles and even lab coats. We will certainly look the part! This year during Education Week we are hosting a FAMILY SCIENCE EVENING, which we are very excited about. There will be lots of hands on, fun experiments and investigations to do and we hope to see you ALL there. Science Evening: Wednesday 21st of May commencing at 6:00pm

Crazy Hair Day

On Thursday the 29th of May our school is having

a crazy hair day! We would like everybody to come

to school with crazy and weird hair styles!

Even though we will have lots of fun with our crazy

hair, Crazy Hair Day is actually about raising

money for a sad and serious illness called Cystic

Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is a

sickness that affects the lungs

and digestive system and there

is no cure yet. Sadly, 1 baby born

every 4 days in Australia has Cystic Fibrosis.

We would like everyone to join in the fun and help

raise money to help people with Cystic Fibrosis by

coming to school with wild, weird, wacky, crazy

hair! It will be great if everyone brings a gold coin

donation. (Bring your donation along on the day

(Thursday 29th of May)
