BBQ for members atEdwardes Lake Park

As we do in every year, this year ourmembers enjoyed a barbecue at EdwardesLake Park. This was held on Wednesday,March 10.

Around 120 members were in attendance.

Weather forecast was for rain, and more rain, with a

possibility of a thunderstorm.

A few members rang up to see if the barbecue was still

on, and when they did that, members of the committee were

in the park already making the necessary preparations.

God was looking after us as the weather let us cook

everything in time. The rain held for most of the afternoon

and it rained only around 2.30 pm when all the cooking was

done and served.

The rain didn't stop members from staying and having a

chat, some were still there until 5 pm.

Thanks to our President, Salvina Vella (and Paul), who did

all the shopping and meat preparation.

Thanks to Madeleine Vella, Sylvia Dakin, Phyllis Vella, Vera

Sacco and Melita Magro who helped in the preparation of

the salads, etc.

Thanks also to the cooks on the day: Charles Sacco,

Vince Borg, Joe Pace (who cooked all the sausages) while

Caesar Vella cooked all the steak.

In no time, all members received the meal of steak and

sausages, salads, bread, etc. Red and White wine and soft

drinks well self-served all day.

Tea, coffee and biscuits were available as well.

This was followed by a platter of fruit. There were plen-

ty of cakes and goodies brought by some of the members.

All this was provided for a charge of $2.

All members enjoyed the day and many approached

members of the committee to thank them for the day and

for the work they did to prepare all this.

A few requested to organise a similar event in the near

future and the committee will try to organise this barbecue

more than once a year.

Thanks to our members who once again attended and

helped to make the serving of the meal goes smoothly.

The MC then read a list of members who were cele-

brating their birthdays around this time, as well those cele-

brating their wedding anniversaries. We had a special

Wedding Anniversary of members Mary and Vince Abdilla,

who were celebrating their 50th.

Then there was the presentation of trophies for the win-

ner and runners-up of the Ladies’ Bocce Competition which

finished two weeks before this event. President Salvina Vella

presented the trophies. This year’s winner was Carmen

Grech; First Runner-up, Toni Hili; Second Runner-up, Cathy

Gatt. All participants in the competition were asked to join

them for a group photo. Salvina Vella thanked Cathy Gatt for

her role in organising this competition.

Then the raffle took place and Paul thanked all those

who donated some of the gifts for the raffle.

MC Paul Vella said that although it may not be proper

coming from him, as her husband, he thanked President,

Salvina Vella, who was responsible for the success of this

function which she organised almost single-handed. We

thank all members for being present and enjoying the day

together as one big family.

Thanks to all those members who found the time to

approach committee members to pay their compliments for

this well-organised function which, as always, was heavily

subsidised by Reskeon Maltese Association Seniors Group

and members only had to pay $16. Thanks also to the man-

agement and waiting staff of Firenze Receptions for the way

they looked after us like they do in all our functions.

On Thursday, April 7, 54 members from ReskeonMaltese Association Seniors Group boarded a DysonGroup coach to enjoy a trip to Geelong, Pt Lonsdaleand Queenscliff.

The coach left the car park of St Joseph the WorkerParish Church at 9 am. We travelled along the PrincesHighway to Geelong where we stopped for 45 minutes formorning tea, provided free by the Reskeon committee. Teaand coffee and biscuits were provided as well as the goodiesbrought by some members.

From there we got on the Bellarine Highway and trav-elled to Pt Lonsdale with a short stop to enjoy the wonder-ful views.

Then on to our main destination – Queenscliff. We stopped at the park and there were plenty of tables

and benches for our use while a lot of members broughtchairs and tables with them.

Some members brought lunch with them while othersenjoyed a meal of fish and chips or a meal at one of the Pubs.

After the meal members enjoyed a chat or a walkaround to the Pier and other places.

The Lord was kind with us regarding the weather. Theday before it rained 24 hours while Thursday was a 22 degday with beautiful blue sky in the morning and a bit of cloudsin the afternoon, but no rain.

At 3 pm members boarded the coach for the trip backto Reservoir.
