RESOLVING THE IMPOSSIBLE ISOMETRICdue Thursday, Sept 24, beginning of class

    1. In Photoshop: COMBINE the Structural Constellation with the 1/2" orthogonal grid. (see digital demo)

    print on 8.5x11 cardstock

Document your work before the start of class and upload to your Classtime Share folder. Save as a .jpg0922_Last_F_SC#_ortho.jpg

    2. In Photoshop: COMBINE the Structural Constellation with the 1/2" Isometric Grid. TRANSFORM it into a 30/30 Isometric. (see digital demo)

    print on 8.5x11 cardstock

Document your work before the start of class and upload to your Classtime Share folder. Save as a .jpg0922_Last_F_SC#_iso.jpg

    RESOLVING THE IMPOSSIBLE ISOMETRIC

    3. In Photoshop: COMBINE the Structural Constellation with the 1/2" Isometric Grid with measure line. You will use the measure line and the grid to find the size of the model.

    print on 8.5x11 cardstock

Document your work before the start of class and upload to your Classtime Share folder. Save as a .jpg0922_Last_F_SC#_iso_measureline.jpg

RESOLVING THE IMPOSSIBLE ISOMETRIC4. TRANSFORM THE IMPOSSIBLE ISOMETRIC DRAWING INTO A PHYSICAL MODEL - 3 ITERATIONS

Start with paper with a grid on it. Size your model precisely according to your 1/2" isometric grid. The model will be 4-7 inches in height. Attempt to recreate the drawing. Iterate two more times.

HOW:Test ideas through the iterations, try solving one part of the Impossible Isometric at a time. Test the accuracy of the model by viewing it in the isometric position. Make an isometric viewer for more accurate testing. (see next page)

HINT: You are looking at this in the isometric, but when you build the model, it will be primarily orthographic.

HINT: Precision and craft is essential here. The models, in their final states, should be well crafted (clean edges, sharp folds, white glue, minimal and tidy clear tape) and stiff (does not flop about). Each successive model should demonstrate an improvement in measurement and craft.

Mount each model on the "isometric viewer" and photograph at eye level. Upload to your Classtime Sharlder.
