Editor's Note:
When we launched Stylemechicny.com we had no idea that six months later we would be
launching our own online magazine. The last six months has been quite the journey that we are forever
grateful for and cannot express our appreciation for the unwavering support. When we started this
journey, it was the beginning steps to learning what our purposes were in this world; every day we are
happy and content with giving the gift of style to our readers. Our hope with this magazine is to use this
as a platform to further help all our readers with their individual sense of style and overall lifestyle
goals. “The magazine you cannot live without!”
This issue has been dedicated to Resort 2015 trends right in time for the season, and to keep
you looking your best at all times. The overall tone was Bohemian and many of the trends from the
Resort 2015 runway were a modern update of the 1970’s era. Some of the trends included; Retro-fab
seventies pantsuits, distinct A-line midi skirts and long elegant maxi skirts, head-to-toe florals, an
assortment of printed stripes, khaki trenches and shirt dresses received modern updates, tie-dye,
peasant tops, culottes or Bermuda shorts and Boho gowns made quite the statement on the Resort
2015 runways.
Resort is the season that encompasses a bit of Winter with Spring. In other words an interim season
and with that being said it is vital we dress accordingly. It’s still a cold season so sweaters, stockings,
boots, leg warmers, hats and gloves are still necessities. No matter your occasion, it’s important to
dress with the season. Some pieces from warmer seasons do transcend well if worn with the right
warm accessories.
Happy reading!
We thank you for your continued support.

Winter “Breaks” @Lady_faye8 & @houseofhuffx
www.faithhuffnagle.com
Almost all hair textures go through a transformation during the winter months; whether its split Ends, dryness or lack
of volume. Heat Styling and chemicals will always play a major role in hair dehydration, but if your hair isn’t
processed, there are a few tips the help keep your locks bouncing in tip top shape.
Scarves/Sweaters
Who doesn’t love wearing a warm Angora sweater or a wool scarf during the coldest days of the season? Take note
that these items could be causing you some breakage. Any length past the shoulders can be easily rubbed against
your clothing, causing further friction and frayed ends.
Give your hair a break: try a low pony at the nape of the neck to gather your hair from moving around against
clothing. Take a pea-sized amount of Oribe Gold Lust Oil and massage into your ends for added moisture. When
restyling on “weathered” hair (hair that’s been out and about in the cold and in forced heat) dry conditioner is A-
MA-ZING. Spray Oribe Dry Conditioner Spray all over ends to begin detangling your hair without the use of water.
The cotton fibers break down any product or build up on the hair, making it easier to comb with less breakage. Or
just keep it simple- Clip your ends up from time to time to alleviate friction on curly hair. Your ends will thank you!
Silk/Satin Pillowcase
Low thread count pillowcases can cause major friction and frizz for all hair lengths. Using satin or silk pillowcases
are far less abrasive to the hair’s cuticle. Whether you toss & turn during the night or sleep like a mummy, bedding
is one of the most overlooked culprits to hair breakage.
Forced Heat
During the winter months we spend a lot of time indoors; especially in NYC forced apartment heat. A humidifier
helps with not only your sinuses and skin, but hair also. Jumping from extreme temps can reak havoc on hair, so
take your home heat into consideration. Oribe Impermeable Spray is great not only for humidity, but keeping
previously hydrated locks protected from dry heat.
Regular TRIMS
A simple trim every 10-12 weeks does WONDERS. Think of split ends like string cheese- the more they’re pulled,
the higher the split. Getting rid of frayed ends will help retain moisture in your ends
(where it’s needed most) & prevent hair from locking. Regular conditioning treatments, such as Kerastase Fusio
Dose deep infusion rituals, will instantly repair and hydrate any common hair concerns. And what’s best? They’re
accumulative; the more you do the better the hair. And that’s just lovely!

Peasant Tops & Culottes
Altuzarra Giambattista Valli
Valentino Chanel
Peasant tops and bell sleeve tops were iconic 1970’s pieces and have since surfaced
on our Resort 2015 runways! Cool and comfy they can make any outfit go from
casual to chic in 1..2..3.
The Culottes or
Bermuda short have
also had a major
presence in the Spring
runways! They are
another easy, fun,
comfortable yet tailored
short that can be seen at
the office or at an
upscale after work
rooftop! Their oversized
so it gives them an
illusion of looking more
like an A-Line skirt at
times. Hence, very
figure flattering!

One of the biggest trends seen on the Resort runways were skirts. The super classic A-Line Midi skirt
has made a roaring comeback and is a perfect alternative to your midi pencil skirts! Maxi skirts not
only came with high slits but have also taken on a much more elegant appearance. Either way is
effortlessly chic!

Balmain Sass & Bide Louis Vuitton Celine The Row
Whether it was sheer hemlines, mid drifts, cut outs or all over sheer madness,
it added some mystique and ostentatious vibes to the Bohemian mood of the
runways. Don’t be shy, be playful in sheer!
Flare leg trousers were a big hit in the pant suits but so were wide leg
trousers, pants and denim. Break away from your skinny jean and
trousers and open your horizons and take a step into the retro-fab
seventies!
Apart from skirts, dresses are also getting longer and in some cases more
oversized. Whether it’s long sweater dresses, an elongated shirt dress or
a pull over silk embellished number, there’s plenty to choose from.

Kale Chips, the snack that keeps on giving
Related to collard greens, cauliflower, and cabbage, kale is a cruciferous green leafy vegetable with
deep green, blue and purplish variations. Dubbed a superfood, kale can be enjoyed in salads, soups,
smoothies, sauces among a host of other versatile recipes to boost your nutrition. While it is readily
available throughout the year, its peak season is among us, winter months leading up to spring. It is
also the perfect time to test out your green thumb by planting some of your excess leaves in a small
pot or container in your home. Kale’s sturdy leaves in the form of kale chips is the perfect
alternative to the calorie and fat dense potato chips, making it the very addictive snack option.
What you’ll need:
4-5 cups kale (yields 2-4 servings)
½ tablespoon olive oil or coconut oil
½ teaspoon sea salt
Spice options: ½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon mustard powder
½ teaspoon pepper
Pinch of cayenne
1 Tablespoon finely grated parmesan cheese
Here are 6 easy steps to the yummy snack you won’t believe is also good for you...
1. Remove the stems and tear leaves into bite size pieces.
2. Wash and thoroughly air dry leaves.
3. Lightly coat each leaf with a little bit of oil. Proper coating allows the leaves to crisp and spices
to stick.
4. Spread kale into a single layer on baking sheet, parchment or non-stick aluminium paper.
5. Roast leaves at 300°F for 10-15 minutes. Check on leaves early to avoid burning.
6. Resist the urge to dive in and allow chips to cool for about 3 minutes. This will allow chips to
get even crispier for your snacking delight.
Kale chips offer a low sodium and low fat snack option loaded with antioxidants, fiber and a host of
vitamins and minerals. Bring a batch to your next potluck or simply pack some in a zip lock bag for
snacking on the go, the guilt free pleasure.

Plank Perfection By: Rashida Beckford
A few weeks into 2015 and some of you may be working hard at achieving
your fitness resolutions. Squat challenges dominated the fitness dialogue for most of 2014,
promising bigger and more toned derriere and legs. Well for 2015, an even more impressive
workout move can help you get closer to realizing your dream figures. The plank exercise is
fundamentally for balance and core strengthening that also engages the glutes, arms and shoulders.
With numerous variations to the body weight activity, all ages, sizes and fitness levels can find
effective plank exercises that require minimal or no equipment.
Proper technique is vital to getting the most out of your planks and reducing the chances of injury.
Practice the following tips to achieve the perfect plank:
Keep forearms shoulder-width apart with elbows directly below shoulders.
Maintain a straight neutral line with neck and spine through to your toes.
Pull belly button towards spine, engaging abdominal muscles at all times.
Squeeze your glutes and keep butt low.
Feet should be hip-width apart; curl toes under.
Straight arm planks, side planks and reverse planks are more advanced
variations to the basic plank. They require the standard technique described
above, most importantly, consistent engaging the abdominal muscles and
maintaining an aligned posture from neck to toe.
As a plank novice, start counting only after burning begins. Hold the
position, paying close attention to proper breathing. Increase hold-time in
increments of 5-10 seconds, being sure to challenge your body as you
strengthen and tone your core.
A well sculpted body requires the integration of a well-balanced diet,
sufficient rest, limiting excess alcohol consumption and smoking, to truly
support your planking efforts.

Girl Talk!! “Let’s talk about sex baby, let’s talk about you and me, let’s talk about all the good things and the bad things
that may be!” –Salt & Pepa
Honesty IS the best policy!
Honesty, arguably isn’t the best policy, but we
beg to differ. We think though it may be the harder
and the more difficult road honesty ultimately gives
your partner choices, and the right to make informed
decisions for themselves rather than being misled into
situations that ultimately lead to deceit, hurt and
heartbreak. This then festers into trust issues, being
bitter and being withdrawn from dating and other social
settings. As young women in the dating world, one of
the major issues we have come across is the fact that
our counterparts, and gentlemen forgive us, you too
may be experiencing the same, aren’t forthcoming
about what they are seeking and what their intentions
are for us. Chap after chap this is a repeating issue that
only leads to further disappointment and discourages
us from wanting to test the waters again.
Gentlemen, it’s ok to say what it is that you are
looking for, it is ok to say I am looking for a friend, or
something casual or something serious. That way you
are not only being honest with the woman you are
seeking, but yourself. More importantly it gives her the
power to decide if she would like to embark on any of
those roads with you or not. As individuals, choices are
important in who we are and how we grow, thus taking
away choices that can shape us into who we will
become stunts our growth and is unfair to your partner.
Allow us to make choices that are right ones for us in
this space and time.
To Settle or Not to Settle?
OMG, this is an ongoing conflicting battle that
we face daily in our current relationships; to stay or to
hit the highway. It’s hard enough to find someone to
date and after a while when all the fairy dust settles, we
find ourselves contemplating whether or not we are
compatible for the long haul? Many times, we
internally battle with whether or not our standards are
too high or too low and sometimes our friends are
reinforcers of that. Which isn’t necessarily a good thing
because ultimately as individuals our values and
relationship goals are different. Sometimes we struggle
with staying with someone that is warm, familiar,
convenient and in fear of being lonely, instead of taking
a chance and seeking what we believe we deserve and
finding someone that meets all our needs and
requirements. “Know the difference between a man
that’s not worth it and a man that’s not perfect”-
Unknown
Compromise, a huge necessity in any long lasting
relationship, it is key to know when to compromise
versus when you are self-sacrificing. Know the
difference, and this is something that we have to learn
within ourselves, our family and our friends cannot
make this decision for us.
When you’re in the middle of this crossroads,
our advice is time! Give yourself time and space you
need to figure out whether or not this person is worth
the compromise or if it is best to walk away. It is
amazing how much clarity you will have after taking
some time for yourself, reevaluating your feelings, your
values, your relationship goals, what you want for your
future and if you see this person in it. Issues of
compatibility, their value system, will he make a great
role model? Will he be a loving and loyal husband? Is
he someone you would want your daughter to date?
At this stage, their traits, intentions and characteristics
will be clearer to you, and you will be able to know for
sure if this is someone worth being with.

Fastbreak Style From making a shot in transition down the court, to scoring a point
at the buzzer, athletes can now be seen wearing the latest trends, turning
that short walk from the bus to the arena into a runway. Fashion is all
about taking risk, and making a statement. Three-time champion Dwyane
Wade of the Miami Heat and All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook for
the Oklahoma City Thunder, are among the fashion elite.
Russell Westbrook continues to make waves since his Complex
Magazine debut. His sense of style sometimes “flashy” “off –the-wall” or
down right “outrageous” has just about deemed him the “Kate Moss of
the NBA”. His style has inspired his fans and fashion gurus and has even
earned him collaboration with Barneys. Westbrooks style has now been
made available for purchase exclusively at Barneys, New York. Channel
your inner Russell Westbrook with mesh T-shirts or an ombre printed
varsity jacket. Amazing athleticism on the court and his unique style, he
does it well.
Across the country surrounded by beaches and warm weather,
the Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wade keeps his style similar to his climate.
His diverse and stylish approach off the court has earned him more than
just an NBA title. Another leader among the fashion elite in the NBA,
Wades styles can be seen in issues of GQ and Esquire. Similar to Russell
Westbrook, Wade is not afraid to take risk. From YSL biker trousers to a
Gucci suit, Wade is sure to make a statement. Dwayne Wade has even
ventured out into showing his sense of style on socks. Teaming up with
Stance socks, the NBA champion had created a unique identity.
What is sometimes ignored now has a sense of flair and flash.
Stance.com

The emergence of fashion has continues to make a splash in the NBA world. As the All-Star
weekend approaches, the top athletes will battle on and off the court, defining their personal style.
Who we take the most risk? Who will set the latest trend? Stay tuned!
