Message from the General Manager

Welcome to the first Happenings of 2011 andI trust that you and your family had a safefestive season. Before you absorb yourselfinto the resort’s upcoming events, on behalfof RACV and the entire Royal Pines team, Iwish to extend our sincerest thoughts andbest wishes to individuals, businesses andcommunities affected by the devastation ofthe recent floods. No matter where you are inAustralia, all of our lives have been, and willcontinue to be affected by the horrendousevents that literally swept through much ofQueensland, Northern NSW and parts ofVictoria and we wish all these communitiesthe speediest of recoveries.

Apart from some washed-out beach days,lots of rain and little or no golf, the GoldCoast community has been very fortunate tohave been spared the heartache aswitnessed in other regions. The Gold Coast isfavouring the sunshine again and as a kick-off to our 2011 leisure activities, we werethrilled with the success our annual FamilyFun Day that was once again enjoyed by over500 happy kids and their families.

The resort is lining-up some fantasticactivities for you to enjoy this year and don’tforget to be part of the ANZ RACV LadiesMasters tournament 10-13 February at theresort. As a bonus, if you are an RACQ and orRACV member or you are a current ANZcardholder, you will receive free generaladmission to any day of the tournament withchildren up to 18 years also free whenaccompanied by an adult.

The exciting re-development works on Levels21 & 22 continue feverishly and by mid-year,members and resort guests will be

reacquainted with the totally revampedRPR’s Restaurant and Bar with private diningfacilities and interactive chef’s tables. Thenew Executive Lounge will also be completedat this time along with 5 new suites and roomson level 22. We are also excited to announcethat plans for a new Day Spa complete with a separate hydro therapy section, an extendedGymnasium including group exercise roomsand a new intimate bar on the reflection pond are well in progress.

Thinking of a quick Noosa break? Our newestaddition, RACV Noosa Resort is situated inbeautiful environs just minutes from iconicHastings Street, a short drive to the famousEumundi Markets, Noosa Springs golf courseand the wonderful and open EasternBeaches. The Course that Draws the Masters

The ANZ RACV Ladies Masters has returnedto Royal Pines Resort for its 21st year and it is expected to be as exciting as evercontinuing its key role in the profile ofwomen’s golf in Australia and worldwide.

The Australian Ladies Masters wasintroduced to the Australian golfing calendarin 1990 moving to its permanent home in 1992at RACV Royal Pines Resort. Joining long-time sponsor ANZ, the Royal Automobile Clubof Victoria (RACV) proudly extended itssupport and was named the new co-titlesponsor from 2011 enabling the tournamentto grow in stature and gain the support ofprofile players annually.

Co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tourand Australian Ladies Professional Golf theANZ RACV Ladies Masters is the cornerstoneof women’s professional golf in Australia withsome twenty countries represented.

Our Star Staff

We are pleased to announce RACV RoyalPines Resort staff member Corey Taylor wasnamed 2nd Year National PGA Trainee of theYear for 2010.

Corey also won the Titleist AcademicExcellence scholarship which combines bothplaying and academic skills.

We wish Corey the very best as he enters his final year in 2011 before graduating.Meanwhile Jin Kim from Golf and Sports hascompleted his PGA traineeship and nowgraduated as a full member of PGA Australia.In 2011 he will be playing the domestic Tour.For our non-golfers he is now a GolfProfessional.

Jin will continue as a Golf Service Attendantduring his non-playing time periods. We wishJin the very best playing on Tour withinAustralia this year.

A Fun Day for Charity

On Sunday 23 January the resort hosted its annual Family Fun Day.

Many enjoyed a day of fun and games withtheir families while supporting Youngcare,an organisation dedicated to providing care for young people in aged care andnursing homes.

The popular annual event drew hundreds offamilies from the local community with freeentry, and for a donation to Youngcare,unlimited access to activities and rides.General Manager, Greg Magi, said the eventis a great way to spend quality time withyour family before school begins.

“We pride ourselves on being part of thelocal community and providing anenvironment where families can cometogether,” Mr Magi said.

Ladies Masters Afternoon Tea

It’s back again, the ever-popular high teaevent where guests are invited to enjoy anafternoon with the Masters.

While the ANZ RACV Ladies Masters playsout just metres away, Afternoon Tea guestswill be treated to an inspirational discussionamongst high profile speakers and golfingprofessionals. Chef’s Recipe

By Kalinda Restaurant Chef, Anis Khayech

Ingredients:• 500g cubed beef

Chermoula Marinade: • 1 teaspoon paprika powder• 1 teaspoon ground cumin• 2 tablespoons chopped parsley• 2 tablespoons chopped coriander• ¼ cup-60 ml lemon juice• ¼ cup-60 ml olive oil• Salt and pepper

Yoghurt Dip:• 1 cup natural yoghurt• 2 tablespoons finely chopped mint• 1 glove of garlic, crushed• Salt and pepper

Serves 4

Chermoula Marinade & Kebabs:Heat up a frying pan to medium heat, addcumin and roast for 15 seconds, add paprikaand roast for a further 15 seconds untilaromatic. Do not burn the paprika. Transfer to a bowl and mix with remaining marinadeingredients. Add the beef, mix well andmarinate for 2 hours in the refrigerator.

For the Kebab Skewers:• 12 x 20cm bamboo skewers, soaked in

cold water for 1 hour• 2 lemons cut into 6 wedges each • 1 or 2 large red capsicum, cubed, Thread the beef and capsicum alternately ontothe skewers. Finish with a Lemon wedge.

Yoghurt Dip:Mix all ingredients and keep cool. Heat BBQ or char grill pan to high, cook the kebabs byturning for 4-6 minutes or until cooked.Squeeze lemon juice over and serve withyoghurt dip and crisp salad.

One of Australia’s most acclaimedtournaments is back and bigger than ever!The Australian 4-Ball Pro-Am Championshipwill be held at the resort’s challenging coursefrom 23 March until 27 March, 2011.

In its fifth year, the unique professional andamateur 72-hole event is expected to takepro-am golf to a new level. Amateurs have theopportunity to experience golf playingalongside a PGA professional while being part of a combination that will determine ateam result.

David Hobday

David Hobday has been at Royal Pines Resortfor more than nine years. Having worked atthe resort in the early '90's and returning, asAssistant Golf Course Superintendent, in 2007.

David is a very accomplished sportsman,playing off a handicap of 2, and representingseveral districts in A Grade cricket.

David is married to wife Mandy, and has adaughter, Ella.

A country boy at heart, David is from Warialda,and likes nothing better than having a game ofgolf and a beer with his mates. His childhoodhero was Greg Norman.

David will be very busy in the coming weeks,with preparation of the course for theAustralian Ladies Masters. You can find him,most afternoons, sitting on a mower, mowingthe grass, rather than playing golf off it.
