• Personnel: planning tool APT used for cost estimates of current contracts, planned replacements and on-going recruitment impacting 2012 and beyond
• Materials: cost planning revised including provisional resource requirements from experiments
• Current estimation for 2011 end of year status– Personnel: very slight overspend possible– Materials: significant underspend due to later than foreseen Computer
Centre upgrade works and billing, delayed remote Tier0 tender adjudication, delayed machine replacement – to be carried forward to 2012
• Impact for 2012 and beyond– Personnel: balanced situation foreseen from 2012 onwards– Materials: Carry forward from 2011 needed in 2012 to cope with
abovementioned delays and additional resource purchases (disk, tape, video-conferencing)
Funding and expenditure for WLCG at CERN
18th October 2011
• Tier1 and Tier2 monthly reports published and distributed by LCG Office
• Sites are encouraged to consult the Accounting Portal and check their data
• 2011 Tier1 resources almost fully installed • Most Tier2 resources installed however India CMS
TIFR will not meet their 2011 pledge• All Tier2s are now reporting correctly• Recent meetings of LHCC and Overview Board
remarked the very positive resource use at CERN, the Tier1s and Tier2s

• At the last C-RRB meeting use of the REBUS (REsource Balance and USage) tool was announced for the collection of 2012 and 2013 pledge data
• 13/05/2011 Resource Scrutiny Group approved experiment requirements were sent to all Federations as input to the pledge collection exercise
• Via Federation-specific mailing lists, pledge data was entered into REBUS remotely from mid-May to end-September
• Very few problems experienced – membership of mailing lists – all changes to be signaled to [email protected]– firewall related access problems (2 sites)
• By the end September deadline – CERN + 10/11 Tier1s had entered their pledge data– 59/67 Tier2s had entered their pledge data
• Following reminders to those missing, remaining pledge data was collected and entered by LCG Office up to 12/10/2011
• The result enables complete pledge tables to be presented to the Autumn C-RRB meeting
– Pledge tables available in the annex of report CERN-RRB-2011-107

Summary• WLCG MoU:
– US LLNL granted full member access as an ALICE Tier2 initially via a Letter of Intent, MoU signature to follow
– Former French Tier3, LPSC Grenoble, became a new ALICE & ATLAS Tier2
• Discussions on-going with 3 new countries interested in becoming WLCG Tier2s
• WLCG Funding & Expenditure: frequent revisions continue, flexibility and carry-forward required to overcome materials shortfall foreseen in 2012
• Tier0, Tier1 and Tier2 accounting showing good resource use overall– All Tier2 Federations now reporting
• REBUS tool was used remotely by all Federations to enter their 2012 and 2013 pledge data
• Complete pledge tables presented in CERN-RRB-2011-107 annex 1
