Important Dates
The last day of school for students this year is Wednesday 16th December. Thursday
and Friday are designated Staff Development Days. As we held one of these days on a Saturday earlier this
year, staff will attend professional learning on Thursday only.
Staff officially return to school for the Staff Development Day on Tuesday 27th January, 2016. The beginning
of the school year for students in Years 1 - 6 is Thursday 28th January. Students in Years 1 - 6 line up in
their 2015 class lines.
Students in Kindergarten start school on Friday 29th January. They go directly to classrooms. 2016
Kindergarten students will be informed of their class at their Best Start Interview. Kindergarten students attend
the Transition Morning on the 29th from 9:45 until 12pm. They also attend school at an allocated time in the
first week for their Best Start Assessment. This is not a test but a way teachers become familiar with each
student so they can best meet their learning needs. 2016 Kindergarten students will receive a postcard in the
holidays with the date and time we would like them to attend their Best Start Assessment.
Stationery
Stationery items for 2016 will be available for purchase through the Flexischools website.
www.flexischools.com.au They will be delivered to school on Wednesday 27th January. Students in Years 1 - 6
will take their bag of stationery items home during the first week of school and are asked to return them
labelled on Monday 1st February. Humphreys provides this service to parents, however, if you prefer to
purchase the items independently, we ask that you endeavour to source the same brands as indicated on the
stationery list. We will send an email to parents as well as paper copies of requested stationery items before
the end of the school year.
Students and staff have worked hard and are deserving of a jolly good holiday. Enjoy the time with your
families.

P & C News
Canteen
The P&C would like to thank Isobel for her years of service in the canteen. A presentation
was made last week at the volunteers morning tea, but if you couldn't make that, do pop by
and say goodbye in person. Isobel was a Manly West Mum for many years, and stayed with
us - as one of the two Canteen Managers - after her children completed their schooling here. She has been
a calm, smiley and witty presence in the canteen, a chef extraordinaire of bolognaise, always generous with
her styling tips and her recipes for "knitted yoghurt" (although the latter may perhaps safely leave the
school with her). We will all miss her, but are happy to report that a lovely new Canteen Manager has been
recruited, with more details to follow. Thank you Isobel!
Manly West tea towels
Stuck for a Christmas gift for the Mother-in-Law? Did you miss out on a
tea towel at the Carnival? Are you in Year 6 or leaving the school and
want something for your mates to sign, to remember them by? Manly
West tea towels are now available to buy on Flexischools, under School
Uniform>Extra.
We will also be hosting a couple of pop-up stalls:
- At Talent Quest on Tuesday 15th December
- 2pm on the last day of term, before the leavers parade.
Tea towels are $10 each and available in blue and yellow. We'll also have sharpies available for a gold coin
donation to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal, if you want to get going on those signatures.
Everyone
Thank you to all parents for your support this year - we've asked a lot and you have delivered in spades.
We really appreciate everyone's support and wish you all a good rest, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year

It was a great chance for all the band families to enjoy listening to your wonderful playing in a festive atmosphere and to farewell our 2015 Performance Band in style. Well done too to the 2015 Performance Band for your playing at the Stages 2 and 3 Assembly and to Training Band for your appearance at the Stage 1 Assembly. ANNUAL BAND PIZZA LUNCH ON THIS FRIDAY Don't forget that all the band members are invited to have a slice or two of pizza together on Friday lunchtime to celebrate their year. Meet outside the Year 6 classrooms at the beginning of lunch. CONGRATULATIONS TO MORE BAND MEMBERS ACCEPTED INTO NSSWE Great news that even more Manly West band members have been offered new places in NSSWE next year (see last week's news). Bella Hocking (Y5), Aden O'Reilly (Y6) and Naomi Ainsworth (Y3) - well done! ONLINE ENROLMENT FOR BAND IN 2016 Please keep a look out for an email asking you to re-enrol online for 2016 before Term 1 starts (including checking that [email protected] is not going into your junk mail or being blocked as we have been getting quite a lot of bouncing emails lately). Doing this quickly will help to manage a smooth transition to the new invoicing arrangements for next year. But please let us know by email if you are not planning to do band next year ASAP.
Have a great holiday and thanks for a successful year.
Kitchen Garden News
Over the last few weeks Year 3 have been busy harvesting potatoes and garlic. We enjoyed cooking jacket potatoes and eating them with sour cream and chives (from the garden). We prepared the garlic bread by mixing garlic with butter and spreading it on crunchy bread sticks. We cooked it in the oven and loved the garlic smell in the classroom. We would like to thank all of the wonderful parents who spent time helping Year 3 with our garden work each week. Have a safe and happy Christmas break ! Beth Dowdle and Holly Mathews.
