Anti capitalist backlash:A challenge of globalization.
8/14/2019 Responding to Global is at Ion
17/32
Why the backlash?
Traditional Globalization flowed from developed markets to emergingmarkets. Often dubbed, Americanization.
Americanization lead to Anti capitalism.
In the eye of the storm: foreign Multinationals.
Reasons for this backlash:1. Inherent conflict between government point of view and the companies.2. Criticisms on subjects of hiring and firing, transferring of technologies, moving funds,
deemed necessary by the company.
3. Footloose capability of the mncs to move production abroad to avoid giving in to laborunions in the low cost emerging markets.
The repercussions: Anti capitalist backlash. From the view point of the protesters globalizationthrough MNCs,is robbing the host country of itsrich resources for increasing its own countrysnational product.welfare of the host country not taken care of.

Anti capitalist backlash, Where?
The anti-capitalism backlash has occurred
extensively in the emerging markets thatembraced free-market capitalism the most.
This disappointment has been most visible inLatin America, where countries such asArgentina and Venezuela have found thatthe economic opening has not solved theirlong-standing institutional weaknesses.
It is also clearly visible in Central Europe, ascommunists become more widely accepted aspolitical candidates, and especially as Russia
stagnates in the early twenty-first century.
Exceptions to this situation in emergingmarkets include Mexico, which hasadvanced dramatically in living standardssince joining the USA and Canada in NAFTA,and China, which remains under a nominallycommunist government, but which isaccepting more and more capitalist activity, with a resulting economic boom over the pastten years.

Meeting the challenge:lets become the global leaders
A progressive country will capitalize onthe capabilities of its people, and notmerely prevent outside influences fromforcing growth in those capabilities.
A very popular idea doing rounds in thiscontext is anti protectionism: A concernover the drain of intellectual property, innovation and jobs, to foreign lands.
How Anti protectionism canbe put to use?
Antiprotectionism is an opposing force toanticapitalism.
Encouraging growth and expansion ofdomestic multinationals would set thisforce into play. Then people will be moreconcerned with keeping the jobs ofdomestic MNCs within the country, ratherthan concerning themselves with oustingthe foreign MNCs.
Current scenario gives a very interesting insightAnti capitalist cry hasbeen almost drownedunder the emerging Indian global leaders.

Quality RisksLanguage skillsExploits the lower paidworkers
Standpoint of labourStaff turnover
Quality Risk is thepropensity for a
product or service to be
defective, due to
operations-related
issues
In the area of callcenters end-user-
experience is deemed
to be of lower quality
when a service is
outsourced.
Some argue that the
outsourcing of jobs
(particularly off-shore)
exploits the lower paid
workers.
From the standpoint of
labor within countries
on the negative end ofoutsourcing this may
represent a new threat,
contributing to
rampant worker
insecurity, and
reflective of thegeneral process of
globalization
In outsourcing offshore
there is an issue of staff
turnover in the
outsourcer companies
