A Renewed Commitment to Excellence
*Response To Instruction
Food for Thought
“ . . . the focus of schooling has shifted from teaching to learning - to the skills and knowledge students must master, rather than the skills and knowledge teachers must teach. This is not a rhetorical difference. It turns education on its head as the focus shifts from assuring common processes for all schools to assuring outcomes for all students.”
-Arthur Levine
Educating Teachers (2008)
DEFINITION OF RTI RTI is the practice of: 1) Providing high-quality instruction or
intervention matched to student needs. 2) Using learning rate over time and
level of performance to: 3) Make important educational
decisions.
MES Mission Statement
Our vision for RTI is that all students can achieve with the right supports. We will work together as a whole school to create a systematic framework of providing high quality instruction and intervention matched to student needs. We will use scientific research-based programs and valid reliable assessments. Ongoing professional development and leadership will be provided to ensure the success of our students.
Essential Components
Defining RTIRTI integrates assessment and intervention
within a school-wide, multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and reduce behavior problems.
With RTI, schools identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide evidence-based interventions, and adjust the intensity and nature of those interventions based on a student’s responsiveness.
RTI may be used as part of the determination process for identifying students with specific learning disabilities or other disabilities.
RTI as a Preventive Framework
RTI is a multi-level instructional framework aimed at improving outcomes for all students.
RTI provides immediate support to students who are at risk for poor learning outcomes.
