Restoration and Revival by Pastor Fee Soliven

Obadiah 15-21Sunday MorningMarch 15, 2015

Obadiah 15-21 (New Century Translation)

15 “The Lord’s day of judging is coming soon to all the nations. The same evil

things you did to other people will happen to you; they will come back

upon your own head. 16 Because you drank in my Temple, all the nations will

drink on and on. They will drink and drink until they disappear.

17 But on Mount Zion some will escape the judgment, and it will be a holy place. The people of Jacob will take back their

land from those who took it from them. 18 The people of Jacob will be like a fire and the people of Joseph like a flame. But the people of Esau will be like dry stalks. The people of Jacob will set them on fire and burn them up. There will be no one left of

the people of Esau.”This will happen because the Lord has said it.

19 Then God’s people will regain southern Judah from Edom; they will

take back the mountains of Edom. They will take back the western hills from the Philistines. They will regain the lands of Ephraim and Samaria, and Benjamin

will take over Gilead.

20 People from Israel who once were forced to leave their homes will take the

land of the Canaanites, all the way to Zarephath. People from Judah who

once were forced to leave Jerusalem and live in Sepharad will take back the cities of southern Judah. 21 Powerful

warriors will go up on Mount Zion, where they will rule the people living on

Edom’s mountains. And the kingdom will belong to the Lord.

1. EDOM’S PRIDE TO BE ABASED

Nahum 1:2-32 God is jealous, and the LORD

avenges; The LORD avenges and is furious. The LORD will take vengeance on His adversaries, And He reserves

wrath for His enemies; 3 The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, And

will not at all acquit the wicked.

Obadiah 4 (New Century Translation)

"Even if you fly high like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, I will bring you down from there,” says the

Lord."

Proverbs 16:18-1918 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. 19 Better to

be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Proverbs 6:16-19 (New Century Translation)

16 There are six things the Lord hates. There are seven things he cannot

stand: 17 a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that kill innocent people, 18 a

mind that thinks up evil plans, feet that are quick to do evil, 19 a witness who

lies, and someone who starts arguments among families.

2. DESTRUCTION OF EDOM

Obadiah 12-14 (New Century Translation)

12 “Edom, do not laugh at your brother Israel in his time of trouble or be happy

about the people of Judah when they are destroyed. Do not brag when cruel things are done to them. 13 Do not enter the city gate of my people in their time of trouble or laugh at their problems in their time of

trouble. Do not take their treasures in their time of trouble.

14 Do not stand at the crossroads to destroy those who are trying to escape. Do not capture those who escape alive

and turn them over to their enemy in their time of trouble.

Romans 12:17-2117 Repay no one evil for evil. Have

regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as

depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge

yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is

Mine, I will repay," says the Lord.

20 Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap

coals of fire on his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil

with good.

3. REASONS FOR EDOM’S DOWNFALL

Pride of Wealth

Obadiah 3 (New Century Translation)

"Your pride has fooled you, you who live in the hollow places of the cliff. Your

home is up high, you who say to yourself, ‘No one can bring me down to

the ground.’

Job 1:21-2221 And he said: "Naked I came from my

mother's womb, And naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD." 22 In all this Job

did not sin nor charge God with wrong.

4. EDOM’S JUDGMENT WAS AND IS STILL INEVITABLE

Obadiah 15-16 (New Century Translation)

15 “The Lord’s day of judging is coming soon to all the nations. The same evil

things you did to other people will happen to you; they will come back

upon your own head. 16 Because you drank in my Temple, all the nations will

drink on and on. They will drink and drink until they disappear.

Joel 3:19-2119 "Egypt shall be a desolation, And

Edom a desolate wilderness, Because of violence against the people of Judah,

For they have shed innocent blood in their land. 20 But Judah shall abide

forever, And Jerusalem from generation to generation. 21 "For I will acquit them of the guilt of bloodshed, whom I had not acquitted; For the LORD dwells in

Zion."

Revelation 20:4"And I saw thrones, and they sat on

them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their

witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his

mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with

Christ for a thousand years."

5. RESTORATION OF ISRAEL AND JUDAH AND EXTINCTION OF EDOM

Philippians 3:8-148 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in

Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may

attain to the resurrection from the dead. 12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which

Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do,

forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those

things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the

upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Obadiah 17 (New Century Translation)

"But on Mount Zion some will escape the judgment, and it will be a holy

place. The people of Jacob will take back their land from those who took it

from them."

Revelation 21:1-81 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first

earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the

holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a

bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God

is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people.

God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall

be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful." 6 And He said to me,

"It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of

life freely to him who thirsts.

7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. 8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers,

sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the

lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

Where are you today?

Are you with Jacob or are you still in the camp of the

Edomites?

Revelation 22:12-1712 "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. 13 I

am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and

the Last." 14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the

city.

15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. 16 I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the

Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”

17 And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say,

"Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water

of life freely.
