DISTRIBUTION OF ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION LICENSE IN INDONESIA

PT. EKOSISTEM KHATULISTIWA LESTARI : 14.080 HA

STATUS OF THE CONCESSION AT KUBU LANDSCAPE

EKL proposes ecosystem restoration license in 2008, covering

previously deforested or degraded mangrove and peat land

forest ex logging concession in Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan,

The proposed area has not been managed more than 10 years.

The ecosystem restoration was granted by the Indonesian

Ministry of Environment and Forestry in 2011, for the 60-year

period of management.

EKL employes an integrated landscape level approach to

protect, restore and manage some 14.080 hectares area of. By

adopting a landscape approach, EKL restores and generates

multiple ecosystem benefits through stakeholder and community

collaboration.

Social value : Mangrove forests provide benefits to local communities

a buffer for livelihoods (habitat of fish, shrimp, crab etc

to support family food and revenue)

Support from Indonesian Goverment

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry

addresses degraded mangrove forests as

part of rehabilitation program in the Ministrial

Strategic Plan year 2015 – 2019.

Mangrove rehabilitation as part of coastal

and marine ecosystem plays the important

role of mitigation process in the Indonesian

Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to

reduce emmisson in the context of climate

change
