Description: A dense , low ground cover with lobed, glossy leaves and brown/maroon runners
rooting wherever they contact the soil. Distinctive yellow daisy flowers are formed year round.
The plant spreads mainly from stem from fragments and runners.
Distribution: Singapore daisy has a limited distribution across the Hinchinbrook Shire.
Impacts: Singapore daisy forms dense mats smothering out native vegetation and pasture. The
plant is allelopathic, releasing a toxin which inhibits the growth and germination of other plants.
Key projects: A targeted program using selective herbicides is underway to treat all known
infestation within Hinchinbrook Shire area.
Prevention
Singapore daisy can be spread by slashing operations and garden waste.
Careful management of machinery and gardening practice in vicinity of known
infestations will help reduce spread to new areas.
Singapore daisy is often associated with water ways and may have been used
in the past in an effort to stabilise creek banks or drains. Ensuring clean soils
and sills are used in earthworks will assist prevent spread between
properties or along waterways.
Intensive
control
To assist the program any new or untreated infestation should be reported to
council. Landholders should ensure they do not spread in contaminated soil
or on machinery. Slashing and mowing of known infestations should be
avoided as even small plant fragments can establish new infestations.
The council led management program can be assisted by providing clear
access to infestations for the control team. Longer term site recovery may
require revegetation with local native plants to stabilise soils and provide
deep shade to reduce habitat for Singapore daisy.

What is my biosecurity obligation?
Prevention zone
Report any suspected outbreaks or detections to Hinchinbrook Shire
on 07 4776 4607.Ensure any machinery or vehicles moving from the infested areas are
free from plant material and soil.
Intensive control
zone
Ensure best practice weed hygiene measures are in place to reduce
risk of spread to new locations. Maintain weed free areas. Identify
high value assets and protect them from impacts where possible.
For more information on management aims in each zone refer to Using the Biosecurity Plan templates
