Chairman’s Report

Many thanksBrian Ferris Chairman, Australian National Amateur Wine and Beer Show

2017 has seen another very successful Amateur Wine and Beer Show, the 38th in this fine tradition with the National Show continuing to go from strength to strength. Over the last four decades, there is no doubt that the quality and standard of the two products - beer and wine – being judged by our experienced judging panel, has shown a high standard. Again this year, the Judges spoke in glowing terms of the development, maturity and passion of the entrants. The Judges’ incisive and positive comments speak clearly and directly to the fine efforts of each entrant, and the care that each entrant took in presenting their beer or wine.Over this past four decades, the two host clubs – The Amateur Winemakers and Brewers Club of Adelaide and the Blackwood Winemakers and Brewers Club – have strongly supported the National Show and it has been their wonderful support, with financial backing and volunteers on both the Organising Committee and the show days, that has been the backbone of the success of this, and past Shows. The Organising Committee has met for over the past nine months, and they must again be congratulated by all, for their commitment, dedication and effort in planning and organising the show. There is no question that the ongoing success and growth of this show is entirely due to this dedicated group. The Organising Committee has been very ably assisted during the days of the Show with the volunteers from both clubs who acted in various roles such as receiving en-tries, stewarding, washing glasses, presenting the beers and wines, general clean-up and arranging the awards presentation, and cleaning the venue afterwards, to all, we say a very big “Thank-you”.The longevity of this Show is also the direct result of the quality and expertise of our beer and wine judges. Over a number of days, not only have they graciously given of their time and knowledge to judge the beers and wines, but they have also taken the time and effort to write clear and constructive comments with each entry. These com-ments have been a valuable education tool for our amateur wine and beer makers. This Show could not continue without the ongoing support of our sponsors, the names of many have been excellent supporters for many years. The Show has strongly benefited for their support, whether it be fiscal or in kind. This support has allowed the Organising Committee to defray the costs of trophies, medals and venue. We recognise these sponsors in the Results Book and our web pages and strongly encourage beer and wine makers to support their businesses. Finally, on behalf of both Host Clubs and the Organising Committee, may we thank you for your continued support of this National Show, and trust that you will con-tinue to enter your beers and wines in the future years.

Whether you’re a resident of Adelaide or visiting this charming city, it’s possible that our beautiful, historic, five-star winery and cellar door is on your doorstep – and you don’t even know it.

Quite literally tucked away on a quiet suburban street in Dover Gardens, we’re less than ten minutes from the tourist precincts of Glenelg and Brighton, and two minutes from Westfield Marion.

Patritti produce award-winning wines from South Australia’s best wine regions. The family owns two exceptional vineyards in the beautiful McLaren Vale and craft their most exclusive red wines from these vines. We also produce a range of traditional and alternative varietal wines from the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills.
