from the office of The President…..Dean Hayes
Well Round 15 saw the Bullants hosting the Under 11,
12 & Colts 1 for the last time at Zwar Park for 2015.
Zwar has been looking worse for wear but during the
summer, the Council will be installing a new drainage
system on the Zwar oval. Next year expect a better
looking Zwar playing surface.
The Under 11’s played nail biter against Park Or-
chards and from a late goal by Park Orchards in the
last quarter had the teams drawn at the final siren.
The Under 12 ‘s continue their strong form with a win
against Camberwell.
The Colts 1 gain came up a very skilled Ivanhoe and
though fell short still continued to compete.
Around the grounds………
The Under 9’s played against a very skilled Fitzroy, but
remember to trust in your team mates & yourselves
and anything is possible.
The Under 10’s had a close game all day against
Greythorn and only just fell short.
The Under 13’s had a flat day against Ivanhoe and I
will know they will bounce back next week.
The Under 14’s celebrated a victory against Bulleen
Templestowe, thanks to the continued improvement
in their football skills. Keep it going!
The Under 15’s had a tough day against Ivanhoe but
to their credit, the boys to continue to improve
throughout the season.
The Colts 2 were competitive against Ivanhoe but
Ivanhoe were too strong in the last quarter.
Next week will see our last week of the Home & Away
season and the Club invites you next Sunday to our
End of Season function at the Preston City Oval Func-
tion room from 5pm.
I look forwards to seeing you there.

Match Report:
We don't score in Tackers of course.... But if we did and I told you we lost by 46 points,
you might think that was a bit of a one sided affair... Even if I tell you 30 of those points
were in the first quarter while we were caught napping. The scores don't reflect what I
saw during this game against Fitzroy, and 46 points or not, I couldn't be prouder.
It's a big ask for any team to come back from 5 goals behind. To be honest, I didn't ex-
pect us to. All I wanted was effort & to try our hardest. It's all I ever want from our kids & I
think they learnt a lot about themselves today.
Tamer, By his own admission doesn't like to run, he ran his heart out for the last 3 quar-
ters. Chased opponents all over the backline & never gave up!
Patty B, exhausted & in tears saying “I can't play anymore" continued for his team-
mates, played one of his best games & won the courage award from Fitzroy.
Marianne, dripping with sweat, asked to go on the non-existent bench for a rest. I
asked her to run harder & tackle harder... And indeed she did, also earning admiration
from the Fitzroy coaches. Also in the heat on the backline, Patty D & Jude, gave their
all & when asked for more, found it.
Sam & Tom in the midfield always give us a lift & work hard. Two exciting players who
rarely need encouragement yet every quarter I asked for more and each quarter saw
them running harder & taking the game on. Around them, Jamie, Perry & Ziggy contin-
ually lifted their intensity too with great tackles & hard running.
Archie had his "mad stare" on from the start. The one that says "it's my ball and I'm get-
ting it!" and it (and his efforts) only got more intense as the game went on.
Jake, thrown forward at short notice & with few opportunities, seized them, crashing
through the packs like a rugby player. Sam, Kalan, Ned, Ayden & Marcus, again with
limited opportunities showed great desire with second & third efforts and were really
unlucky not to score.
What did we learn? Fitzroy were more polished. Better kicks & marks. We will get there,
those things are what coaches & training is for. The real lessons came from you, kids.
At the end of the day it's down to you and your teammates on the ground (not the cra-
zy old man yelling from the sidelines!)
When you think you can't... You can!
When you've run your hardest...there is more!
When you want to give up...you won't!
Because Footy is hard work and because you're Bullants.
So proud of you all. As always!

Match Report
The Preston Bullants under 10s arrived to a sunny but windy Greythorn Park for their
match against the Greythorn Falcons. Kicking with the breeze, the Falcons got off to a
flying start with an early goal. However for the remainder of the first quarter the Bullants’
defence held up well to thwart the many Falcon forward thrusts.
Qtr time score Preston 0.0.0 Greythorn 1.4.10
The Bullants hit back in the second quarter with an early ‘poster’, then kicked their first
major through a fine effort by Joel. The Bullants’ second goal through Felix just before
the siren was greeted by a chorus of tooting car horns around the boundary line.
Half time score Preston 2.2.14 Greythorn 2.6.18
The third quarter was again tight with the Falcons doing the majority of the attacking.
The Bullants’ defence again held up well, with fine marks to Lachy, Harry and Liam put-
ting paid to several of the Falcons’ forward moves.
Three Qtr time score Preston 2.6.18 Greythorn 3.7.25
With the game in the balance, Cam urged the boys to ‘kick long with the wind’ in the
final quarter. When Phoenix kicked truly from on the run early in the quarter, it ap-
peared that the Bullants were poised to run over the top of their opponents. However,
the Falcons replied quickly with two goals into the breeze to again extend their lead. A
further Bullants’ goal kept them within touch, however the Falcons held on bravely to
register a two goal victory.

Match Report
Round 15 found us at Zwar for our last home game and second last round of the
season. Our opponent for the third time this season was Park Orchards. Although,
they haven’t won many games this season, our matches against them have always
been tough battles.
This match marked 50 games for Luca Camilleri playing for the Bullants. He has been
outstanding in his efforts for 3 years. He was 2nd in last year’s B&F and 6th in the YJFL’s
B&F- pretty good for a team that had only 2 wins last year and a testament to
Luca’s hunger to win the footy..
That was then and this is now and our Bullant boys have come a long way sitting at
3rd on the ladder. A win against Park Orchards would cement a position in the finals.
Unfortunately this was not one of our better games. It was a very scrappy game with
not much run. Through some hard work out of the middle by Steven and Luca, Toby
managed to score the first and only goal of the match. Max D showed great
technique in his kicking down forward but his shot on goal just veered through for a
point
For the next 3 quarters it was a tussle. Jordan was very good off the half back flank
deflecting the attack of Park Orchards. Nick continued his excellent form in the
ruck. Maxim laid a tackle that was both strong and showed great technique.
The bright spots were that the defence was holding up and the midfield were
supporting, but we couldn’t quite convert in the forward line. A continued bright
spot is our players gaining confidence in kicking off the non-preferred foot
The main points we focus on- attack the ball, don’t be a spectator, get in front of
the opponent and contest the possession were all frustratingly absent in this
performance.
So, it all boiled down to the final six seconds where flat-footedness and lack of
urgency led to Park Orchards scoring a goal to draw the game. Our second draw
of the season!
Luckily the 2 points gained from the draw will see us, no matter what happens in this
last round, play finals footy!
Now we can look at the positives for our Bullant boys.
This is a terrific achievement and a great turnaround from last season. They have
played strong, team oriented football all year. Take away this draw, and the effort
has been really pleasing.
Matt and I are super proud of the boys and the parent group and club should be
too.
We take on 2nd place Doncaster for Round 16- all that counts is taking a positive
attitude and confidence into this game that can be a launching pad for the finals.
Go Bullants!

Match Report
Thanks to our parent helpers for assisting with the game day duties.
Well done to Zach D for playing his 50th game of YJFL footy.
This week we played Camberwell at Zwar Reserve on a reasonability dry and firm
surface considering the amount of rain we’ve had over the past few days. The wind
was doing its best to make the game interesting with the breeze favouring the
school wing.
Our captains were Peter and Ryan who both deserved the honour after great on
field performances over the past few weeks.
The first quarter was scrappy with the ball holding up in the wind and both teams
making fundamental skill errors. The mid’s worked hard and each of the forwards
played their role at stages. Defensively the boys where relaxed, allowing Camber-
well easy ball over the top but to their credit they locked down the game and
brought it back on our terms.
In the second we stopped over using the ball and went direct through the middle
with the half back line giving the team great forward movement. Alexander was
fantastic, running and carrying the ball while Zach D again shown his silky skills with
pin point passes inside 50 on a number of occasions. With contributions all over the
ground the team settled in and put score board pressure on the opposition. A com-
fortable at the long break.
The boys have set a very high standard for themselves, so the aim each week is to
improve on the previous week. We’ll go back to training this week and work on a
few areas that let us down but all in all I’m very proud of these boys
Standouts on the day: Darcy, Rodda, Eamon, Zach D, Patrick, Terrence, Peter, Char-
lie, Ryan, Elie and Josh.

Match Report
I don’t know if it was just a bad day at the office (as in, the boys were flat for no ap-
parent reason) or if Ivanhoe found their way under the team’s skin but this was a loss
that should not have occurred.
To be fair to Ivanhoe, they have been in pretty good form the last few weeks. They
had won three of their last four games (losing only to Whitehorse) so they would
have been confident that they could take it up to the Bullants. They also had home
ground advantage. Appreciate, Ivanhoe Park is a difficult park to read. With its big
fat wings, different terrains and odd sloping flank, let alone the way the wind
swirled, it was always going to be a key element the away team had to battle.
The Bullants started well and looked (for a moment) like they would take control of
the game but our forward thrusts did not deliver the goal rewards they should have.
Players were working hard, Finn and Ben had a good quarter, Dylan was, as usual,
on. None were more relentless that James S. A dynamo of a player, committed to
the ball, to the contest. At quarter time we were a point up.
Then we seemed to stop. We did not score for two quarters. Even though we had it
in our forward line more than enough. Ivanhoe played structured footy, using out-
side runners and most importantly, playing with a loose man, forward and back. At
one point in the Third they had four free players in the goal area to kick a major.
They ran harder, kicked deeper into attack, found space and kept the ball moving.
At the same time the Bullants seemed to fall back into bad habits. That is, they relied
on too few to do too much. This has a knock-on effect in that we stop kicking to tar-
gets, our defensive wall starts to crack and the mid-field is left wide open for the op-
position to exploit.
At the three quarter time break Emily’s message was simple. Focus on what you can
do at the contest, take the game on. The Bullants responded. We took control. Tom
goaled then Darc, spinning around three defenders, found space and booted an-
other. When Brodie handpassed to Leo who kicked true the margin was two points.
However, Ivanhoe kicked a couple of goals in junk time to cement their well-
deserved win.
What can the Bullants take from this game? If you don’t score for two quarters
(even if you win the other two) you won’t win. Structures and game plans will beat
individuals. Trust the team. It’s why you have been winning.

Match Report
Never has the old adage “winners are grinners”, been more apt than last Sunday at
Bulleen Park around 2.40pm, when our Under 14 boys defeated a strong Bulleen
Templestowe team. Right from the outset, with nearly a full strength team, the boys
showed they were not going to be intimidated by a team that was placed third on
the ladder. The pressure applied to the opposition was causing uncharacteristic
turnovers and our boys were able to bring the ball into a dangerous forward line
with confidence and skill. Our boys were using the ball with skill and were starting to
hit targets with more regularity. There was never more than nine points in the game
as our boys to a man, committed themselves to the task of winning. The third quar-
ter, often called the premiership quarter proved to be so, and was a great struggle
with the boys limiting Bulleen Templestowe’s scoring, even though they had a strong
wind. The last quarter had the Preston supporters regularly cheering great acts of
endeavour as the boys hung in with great defence and skilful attack to hold the
lead and in the final seconds kick a goal that put the result beyond doubt.
I do not want to single out any boy’s efforts because it takes a team to achieve
what the boys did on Sunday. However I do want to mention Jack Nicolo who was
challenged by some very inappropriate behaviour from some opposition players in
the first half. With the support of his parents, teammates and team officials, Jack
was able to harness his frustration with an even greater attack on the football in the
second half and thus continue to be one of our most important players and show
the Bulleen Templestowe players that their inappropriate efforts to upset him were
wasted. Well done Jack.
The under 14 boys have been a pleasure to coach this year and have represented
the club in the best of ways, showing commitment to the cause whilst maintaining
great integrity with their behaviour. Their parents must be very proud.
With one game to go we thank Damian for his enthusiasm, teaching and encour-
agement throughout the year. His commitment has never wavered and his belief in
the boys has been rewarded with the great results achieved in the last part of the
season. Enjoy Spain and France you lucky bugger.

Match Report
On Sunday the under 15’s ventured out to Ivanhoe Park to take on Ivanhoe. With
our opponents second on the ladder we knew we would have to be at our best to
match them, and with six players out the task had become even more challenging.
Before the game Louie asked for a consistent effort, and not to give in.
In the first quarter we started well. Jack P and Tyson put the Bullants two goals up.
We were moving the ball well and running hard from defence into attack and
back. With Alex and Thomas taking marks around the ground and desperate acts
from Ryan and Louis P, including a great smother, our confidence was rising.
In the second term Ivanhoe got on top early. Louie made a few changes including
moving Andreas on to one of their damaging forwards. Andreas stuck to his guns
and shut down the Ivanhoe player. Well done Andreas.
Jack P who seems to be enjoying his role up forward kicked the Bullants third goal
with a great snap.
The third term was our best for the day, with two goals to Jack P and one each to
Tyson and Christian. This was a great pay off for the team’s hard work. We out-
scored Ivanhoe in this quarter and although a fair way behind, the on field momen-
tum was swinging our way.
In the last quarter the game opened up into more of a freewheeling contest. Matt
showed some agility through the middle and Aido, Henry and Adrian found space
on their opponents. Matt put through a goal near the siren giving the Bullants a re-
spectable eight goals for the day.
We performed well under the circumstances and were quite competitive for much
of the game. One thing that we’re noticing at this late stage of the season is that
each player has improved from the beginning of the year.
It’s great to see our boys doing things out on the field that they weren’t capable of
doing in years gone by.

Match Report
A bleak penultimate game for the boys who just didn't show up to play against a
quality outfit. Preparation is everything and I hope coming I to the final round of the
year the boys can give it their complete all.
We started okay to begin with and our intent to kick the footy through the corridor
was a positive but our skill level wasn't up to scratch to play a top four side.
There were a couple of positives from the day with Andre Botoulas, Liam Sutton and
Ben Augustus all starting despite having little help.
This week it gets no easier against Ashburton but I have full confidence when this
group is up and firing we are capable of beating almost any side. Our last week to-
gether as a Colts group so I hope it is one where all the players on the list get to en-
joy a win!

Match Report
Fresh from our first win of the season against Parade St.Damian’s we hosted Ivanhoe
looking to make it 2 on the trot!
We began in fantastic fashion with the classy Moletta kicking a major before some
excellent F50 pressure lead to a stoppage that Matt Parente was infringed in. Matty
slotted a beauty from the pocket to put us 2 goals up with only a couple of minutes
left in the quarter. Ivanhoe responded with a nice bit of play, however, we won the
quarter and lead by 7 points at ¼ time.
The playing group spoke about winning behaviours pre game, and unfortunately
we didn’t show these in the 2nd. We were completely outplayed and Ivanhoe who
are pushing for finals made us pay to lead by 4 goals at ¼ time. It could have been
more if not for the great work down back of Arthur Phlorides.
Our ability to fight in the 3rd quarter was to be commended. In the middle stanza of
the quarter we absolutely dominated, however, failed to convert kicking 4 straight
behinds.
A highlight of the quarter was Anthony Moletta who dodged a couple in the middle
of the ground before running his fully 15 metres and hitting Connor Howard with a
beautiful pass which he goaled. Anthony has certainly been one of our best players
this year constantly showing his offensive flair yet being very good defensively.
13 down going in to the last change, we really needed everything to go our way to
make inroads. Stella and Epifano did provide great run and carry in this quarter. Dan
Zou couldn’t go out in the last quarter with a very bad corky leaving us with 17 play-
ers. Joseph Mansour kicked a great goal from the boundary line to give us hope,
however, we ran out of legs with Ivanhoe running all over us to win by 44 points.
The scoreboard didn’t do us justice once again, again I was proud of our efforts! We
will go in to our last game of the season this weekend and hopefully finish with a
bang, the playing group definitely deserve it!
Thanks to the parents that helped out on the day.
Go Bullants!
Harmit.
