If you’re making no changes, there is no need to call or take any action. Your benefits will continue uninterrupted in 2013.
The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s nationwide series of walking events to raise funds and awareness to end breast cancer. It is an inspiring opportunity for a community to unite and honor breast cancer survivors, raise awareness and raise money to help fight the disease with breast cancer research, information, services and access to mammograms for women who need them.
On October 20, the Making Strides walk will take place in San Francisco in Golden Gate Park–Hellman Hollow. Every year a team of PG&E employees, retirees and family members unite, stand and walk together for this great cause.
Steve Machado, a PG&E retiree whose mother, aunt, three sisters and two cousins are all breast cancer survivors, represents the PG&E team every year. “Every employee at PG&E knows someone, whether it’s a family member, a co-worker or a family member of a co-worker, who has been affected by breast cancer. This is a great way to show support and find a cure for cancer for the next generations to come,” Steve said.
This year, for the first time, PG&E will be a corporate sponsor of the Making Strides event, and Ann Kim, who works in the PG&E Law department and is the team leader, hopes to see an even larger turnout, and to present a sea of blue shirts for the walk.
“The PG&E Energy Walkers has always been a small but mighty team,” Ann said. “We have consistently been one of the top 10 fundraising teams and have raised nearly $100,000 over the years. PG&E wanted to celebrate the team’s success and commitment to the cause by becoming a corporate sponsor this year.”
In addition to supporting a great cause, the team that walks will receive a Team Community Service Award. Teams of 10 or more employees or retirees can receive a CSA of $500; and teams of five or more employees or retirees, or individuals who volunteer more than 40 hours per year, receive a CSA award of $250.
Join the PG&E Energy Walkers on October 20 in Golden Gate Park at 8 a.m. to support, raise awareness and find a cure for breast cancer. For more information, visit: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=47301&pg=team&team_id=1222894.

“Our request is about the safety of our gas and electric operations and building for the long term,” said Pacific Gas and Electric Company President Chris Johns. “It is critical to the 15 million people we serve, and to the economic health of California, that PG&E continues to invest in a safe, reliable and affordable energy future. The proposal we put forward today will enable us to modernize our system and accelerate the progress we have already begun toward our long-term goal of being the safest utility in the country. It will also make California stronger and help revitalize the state’s economy.”
The GRC requests additional funding in the amount of $1.25 billion in 2014. It asks for additional increases of about $500 million in 2015 and 2016 to account for additional infrastructure improvements and increased costs of labor, materials, supplies and other expenses.
This translates into a rate increase of less than $5 per month for electric customers and less than $7 per month for natural gas customers. See the adjacent graphic for more information on the proposed rate increases.
Altogether, the GRC request would support about 39,000 jobs in California and generate an estimated $9 billion each year in positive economic impact from sales of goods and services statewide.
PG&E plans to officially submit the 2014 GRC in December 2012. At that point, the CPUC will undertake a thorough, yearlong review of PG&E’s operations and costs, including public hearings, comments from interested parties and—for the first time—a review by independent technical experts hired by the CPUC. The CPUC is scheduled to issue a decision at the end of 2013.
For more information, please visit www.pge.com/grc and sign up for regular updates on the GRC process.
PG&E to File 2014 General Rate Case with Eye on Safety, System Improvements
Proposed GRC Rate Impacts
On July 2, 2012, PG&E submitted a Notice of Intent (NOI) to file the 2014 General Rate Case (GRC) with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). With this rate case, PG&E is requesting an increase in funding to pay for additional investments in system infrastructure, as well as improvements in the operations, safety and reliability of PG&E services.
