Senior Professional Director, Anita Revelle, has given notice that she will be retiring on June 28th after servicing us for
12 years. Anita has led us through many changes in our program and has contributed to finding other avenues here at
the university to explore. She will be missed by all of us but, we could ask her to join Senior Professionals!
Thank You from Your Director
Anita Revelle
I want to take this time to thank all of you for giving of you time and talents to the university and to me. The Senior
Professional program would not be possible without the dedication of the members that provide outreach to the

State University. It has been a pleasure getting to know all of you and I’ll miss you dearly.

WESTERN MCLEAN COUNTY BUS TRIP
Over 100 people climbed on two buses for a day trip to Western
McLean County with Don Meyer. They found it interesting and
fun to explore that side of the county. Lunch was at the Palms Grill
in Atlanta where they were able to see the old grain elevator, clock
tower and the Paul Bunyan statue.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE THI S FALL
Dorothy Kennett
This past year we have had only 6 new members join Senior Professionals. The Membership Committee has decided to
hold a Membership Drive this fall. We are hoping that each member of Senior Professionals will have at least one name
to give us as a potential new member. So, start taking a look at who you know that has just retired, a new
neighbor that has moved to the area that would enjoy joining Senior Professionals, or even your spouse.
You can get information about the programs from our web site http://seniorprofessionals.illinoisstate.edu/.
The membership links are on the left side. It is the responsibility of all members to participating in growing this
organization. Remember there are many unique volunteer opportunities with Senior Professionals.

Mock Interviews The spring Mock Interviews went off well this April. Here we are in the 14th year of this program and it seems to get
better and better, thanks to all of you. The following aresome student feedback about the program:
*I think it was great! It really helped me and I felt more confident.
*Made it easy to get an idea of what a real interview would be like.
*I felt the interviewer was very professional and helped me prepare for future interviews.
Career Center Help Mark you dates for the fall Job Fairs: Intern Fair, September 18th, 4-7 p.m.
Fall Job Fair, September 19, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Many students appreciate our First Check Booth last year. They felt relaxed after talking with a member, and trying out
their 30 second introductions. .
The Career Center is also looking for a few members to conduct Job Fair tours to underclass students. This would entail
taking a group of 5-6 students around the fair and on the stage and going over the different aspects of the fair. A script
would be provided for the volunteer to follow. Many students come from career classes for extra credit. This would be a
great volunteer experience for a retired teacher.
The Career Center is asking for our to help critique resumes (about 15-20 minutes each) the day before the Job Fair,
September 17th. Paul Shaffer will be scheduling a class offered to Senior Professionals who would like to go over the
new style resumes sometime in August. Paul will be contacting people during the summer.
Passages—August 15 & 16 Anita Revelle
Since I’ll be retiring the end of June, it’s time to start thinking about Passages 2012. I’ll need about 30 members to fill
the spots at the Information Tables in the Bone Student Center. Find a Senior Professional friend or get your spouse to
help. It’s a fun two hours of meeting the new students and their families and answering their questions. The times for
both days are:10 a.m.—noon, noon—1:30 p.m., 1:30—3:30 p.m., 3:30—5 p.m. Call or e-mail me 438-2818 or ar-
[email protected] if you can help.

SENIOR PROFESSIONALS
FROM THE BOARD
Jerry Ringer, Bd. Chair
The Senior Professional board met in a retreat on May
14. We met with Dr. Larry Dietz, VP of Student
Affairs, and Gary Redding, Director of Development for
Student Affairs. We discussed our involvement with
students. They both are advocates for Senior
Professionals. Several ideas for new areas of
involvement with students and student organizations
were discussed. The board reviewed and evaluated our
programs during the 2011-12 year and discussed our
plans for next year
I would like to personally thank Karen Ament for
leadership of the Education Committee and service on
the board and to Dorothy Kennett for chairing the
Membership Committee and her service on the board.
The board will be evaluating our programs in response to the change to 2/3 time. We hope to continue with all our programs but may ask that members assist in some new ways. I hope that all of you will consider a positive response when we call on you.
As you have noted from Anita’s article in this
newsletter, she will be retiring on June 28.
Sandra and Paul Harmon
Beginning in mid-April, 16 Senior Professionals and 21
students took part in a project for an Exercise Science class
in Illinois State University’s School of Kinesiology and
Recreation. Students in the class provided personalized
fitness training for the Senior Professionals for a total of five
75-minute sessions in ISU’s new recreation center. Each
Senior Professional was assigned one or two students who
served as their personal trainer/s. At the end of the five
sessions, the student trainers created personalized, illustrated
exercise manuals for their “clients” to enable them to
continue the program on their own.
Class instructor Betty Henson, M. S., prepared her
students well for this training experience. Her students had
all reviewed the background information that had been
submitted by their clients and had prepared initial exercise
programs. In a get-acquainted period during the first session,
students gathered more insight into the goals their clients
wished to accomplish. The student trainers were then able
to modify the training programs throughout the five sessions
to meet the expectations of their clients.
All the Senior Professionals felt their student
trainers did an excellent job, were knowledgeable, person-
able, patient, and easy to work with. This was a very good
experience for the Senior Professionals and a valuable
training experience for the students.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME
Over 100 Senior Professionals, spouse and mentees
enjoyed a fun afternoon at the Take Me Out to the
Ballgame, annual dinner. The theme provided lots of
fun with peanuts and cracker jacks and a keg of root
beer to start off the event. This was followed by a picnic
style supper with baseball shaped cupcakes.
Jerry Ringer administered a short meeting where the
following members were elected as the 2012-15 board
members: James Carter, Dan Liefel and Jerry Ringer.
After the meal Mentoring Committee chair, Darrel
Sutter, introduced this year’s Charles Bolen Honors
Student Award Winners. They are: Danica Taylor,
Luther Dearborn mentor; Molly Briggs, Laurie Bergner
mentor; and Nancy O’Neill, Judie Bey mentor. The stu-
dents gave interesting presentation about what they have
done and what they plan on doing in the future.
Bill Cockrell from the University Relations Committee
introduced the two Civic Engagement Award Winners
who gave an insight into how the funds allowed them
move forward on their projects.
